Title: VW main dealer 2nd service
Post by: Mako V12V on April 21, 2010, 02:28:28 pm
My Ed 30 is due its second service next month. The first VWMD service cost around £80 (basically oil and filter). The VWMD in Preston is saying they need to do more safety checks and change the pollen filter and the charge would be £225!!

Having read my service schedule book it gives me the impression the second service is just another oil and filter service and the larger servicing costs come in year 3.

Can anyone confirm what is required for the 2nd service and what typical costs should be?

£225 sounds steep. VW Huddersfield are doing my 4 year service (quite a big one I gather?), plus a brake fluid change, plus an MOT for £280.

Mileage is currently 15750 so would be nearer 17000 in a months time. The 2nd service should be a fixed price basic service though surely?!

Just wondering what is involved in the service?  Going to start ringing round next week, need MOT & CAM Belts, Water Pump, Oil & Filter.

DSG, Plugs, Air & Cabin Filters were done at last service so shouldn't need doing again.

Very very good price - Plugs may need changing too ~ £9.50 each plus labour if you don't do them DIY

Scopes, are you from NI?

If so, phone Phillips and see what they quote as Agnews will match it.

I did this with my second service. They did it and retro fitted cruise for £285.

My second sefice last month, had a similar post up also...I payed £175 for oil, filter, pollen filter and brake fluid change. The safety checks they speak of are free, and standard at second service time i am told.  :happy2:
I was quoted £240 at another dealer without brake fluid change!  :stupid:

Well i've spoke to three VWMDs now. Two of them - Preston and Blackburn are both part of the Lookers group and whilst they would "price match" other LOCAL dealers, both of them appear to be price FIXING by quoting the same £225.50. This EXCLUDES brake fluid change!!

The other quote was from VW Crosshills nr Skipton who've quoted £180 but i was unable to speak with Ben. Lookers would probably say they are not local so will not match prices  :fighting:

Question: I work for a motor dealership (non-VW) so it would be really easy for me to have the service done whilst at work. But what do you think about a 2yr old Ed30 without full VWMDSH if it came to sale time?

Book it in with Ben and ask for a loan car.
I love the drive over the pennines and White Rose is the first dealer I have ever spoken to that knows what they are on about and are enthusiastic about it too (well Ben at least)
Re stamp in the book. Working for a dealers, you probably know the importance more than the rest of us.
Complete stich up but potental buyers look for it as standard.

I would be put off personally but then I'm fussy...
