Title: Removing Radio.....
Post by: Ifti on April 22, 2010, 10:17:12 pm
I dont have the top centre vent in my MK5 as I dont have Climate Control. I just have a spare tray thingy.
Does anyone have a guide on how I can remove this can get down to the radio so I can install my Parrot kit please?!
Thanks

Just the same as with the vent as far as I am aware, you just need to just a trim removal tools to lift out the tray, then you can remove the screws holding the middle vents trim in place.  :happy2:

I may try this on the weekend - Im assuming I can just use any flat end to pry the tray up??
Should i start from the front, or the rear, of the tray? Or does it not make a difference?

I would start at the rear of the tray  :happy2:

Do I need to disconnect the battery or anything before I begin??

There are 2 screws underneath the rubber mat. Remove them and then pull the tray, then follow the normal procedure.

Cheers mate - do I need to do anything with the battery before I remove the radio, or am I ok to just unplug it to connect the parrot it?

I didn't remove it but I'm not sure if you have to. Have you ever taken apart the dash?

Nah never!
Ive ordered my Parrot kit (with the VW loom) and have been quoted £100 for just the installation!!
Hence I want to have a go myself!

I's a REALLY easy install putting in a Parrot kit. There's no way it should cost £100. Give it a go yourself and you'll be suprised how simple it is.

It took me about 20mins and that was being slow and careful!

Im assuming I need this as well?......

I think I can get the radio out fine now - any guides on the wiring etc on installing the parrot, ie. where/how its all connected up?

99% of it is plug and play.

You just need to connect the loose red wire to a 12v switch source, this can be found either on the back of the climate control panel or the fuse box.
