Title: EVOMS filter cleaning
Post by: Timmyboy on April 25, 2010, 10:35:00 pm
Hi folks,

I've recently bought a second hand EVOMS CAI and the filter (well, the whole thing actually) needs a good clean before installing.

I've bought a K&N filter cleaning kit like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-AIR-FILTER-CLEANING-KIT-99-5000EU-RECHARGER-KIT-OIL_W0QQitemZ350333731657QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5191848349

and did some Google searches to find out the best way to tackle it, only to find:

1) there are 'dry' filters as well as oiled - mine does not have a sock though so assume it is oiled?
2) Recent filters just need washing in soapy water and a good dry i.e. no oiling?

Now confused :)

Well as I'm not psychic I don't know what you have Timmy but to clean the one I had on my Octavia I used Oxy clean and a bucket of hot water.

Dunk the filter in the hot water, sprinkle with oxy clean, let it fowm up then rinse again. Dry thoroughly and then spray (if oiled) very lightly and leave wrapped up on a radiator for an hour or so.

Thanks Ian - it's for an Octy 2 VRS TFSI.

It's the oiling bit that concerns me really as I've read that the MAF can become fouled. Is a 'light oiling' literally just that e.g one spray over all surfaces?

Yeah Sy, quick experiment to see if the EVOMS gets rid of the goose in my engine bay.

Yes mate light spray on the outside, wrap in kitchen towel and leave somewhere warm for and hour or so.

Any of the K&N, Pipercross, Green Cotton oiling kits will be suitable. :happy2:
