If I included the cost of my mods in my budget, then either a fully loaded Golf R or a TT-RS. A previously used Porsche would be a strong contender too.

Newer GTI/Ed30 - still a mk 5. Wife did ask at the weekend if I would like a mk6 !!!!

but seen a few really cheap Cayman S for sale.

(owing a porshe is much harder work than a VW, & much more expensive)

Ed30/S3, wonder if they are on the company car scheme of the job ive just applied for

For some reason im really attached to my mk4 anni, but i know its time to change shortly, if funds allow.

Good luck on the job hunt.  Just started looking too.

Car schemes only usually have current models on it - so you would prob be looking at a Mk6 .:R

Wife works for RBS - Mk6 GTI & Rocco are both listed on an assisted purchase but not the R (Yet)

Spooky that I was going to start this very thread..principally as I cannot see possibly what I would want to replace my gti with.....

Only thing I can think of is an Ed30....would like an R32 but the roadtax rip off puts me off....outside that the Audi isnt doing it for me, quite fancied a 2001/2002 996..but the engines are going POP all over the place at a 5-11k fix price.... :scared:

So..Ive got a 2005 (55), MY06 GTI fully loaded, DSG...not sure I can afford to shell out much more a month to step to an Ed30 at stealer prices  :sad1: Keep noticing them though....

I think it may have to be a 5 door...one or two logistical issues recently have left me wanting the rear access.

...if anyone with a 5 door ed30, wants a swap and some cash their way....(lol its a long shot but....who knows someone may want to free up some cash,...get in touch)

It would have to be a 3 dr R32 in deep blue pearl , with DSG, recaros and sunroof for me. Not going to be as quick but that doesn't matter.

S3 sportback next for me. Hopefully when they're down to early twenties. White with the buckets and s-tronic.

I would'nt bother!

I got a brand new 57 plate A3 TDI 170 Quattro S-Line in 2007 and hated it! It felt awful to drive, totally guttless and the dpf blocked every week meaning it went in to limp mode. I got rid of it after 3 months. I was really surprised as I'd had an S3 previously and absolutely loved it.

I know Garth, I did a thread about it a few months back. I saw your input  :happy2:
I've driven the 2.0 TDi 140 Sport and absolutely loved it. Couldn't fault it as an all round 8 grand car so each to their own I guess. There's no doubt it would be reasonable on fuel.

I fancy something 4WD or Quattro next, probably still in TFSI guise so either A3 sportback sline 1.8 or 2.0TFSI with s-tronic (you can have the 7 speed box with the 1.8T Or an S3 stronic which will mean the new shap, would also probably go for the sportback version as I prefer the lines over the 3 door.

Anyone ever thought of dropping a TFSI engine into an R32 chassis and 4wd system or is this ludicrous???

why would you drop the TFSI into the r32 chassis when the S3 already has it??

i must admit if i was to buy another newish car it would very likely be 4wd and have a turbo

Sounds expensive mate butwould get you the best if both worlds IMO that's probably why the new ::R has this :)
just can't think of anything with the same perfomance as the ed30 (after map) but can also be average on fuel (if u want it to be!)

I have also been looking and its not easy i tell you, i have been looking at S3's, 135i, Golf & scirocco R's , trouble is most of them require 16k to swop LOL
Title: Re: If you sold
Post by: neg on April 29, 2010, 07:54:44 pm
Some of these are a little out of the 'same budget' which the OP mentioned

S3 Sportback / Mk6 Golf GTI or just maybe an R for me next I think, a modded Mk6 GTI could be a better all rounder than the R, £10k+ cheaper and after all its GTI

Cheaper to turbo an R32 engine and you would get more power so no point really!

TBFH, most of you on here have too much money if you can afford to run 6 cylinder beasts when I know most of you are married or in relationships, with kids and with houses etc... Cash sluts, all of you  :jumpmove:

It would probably be Japanese. I am having more than my share of aggro with German cars at the moment after years of Jap stuff that gave me no trouble at all.

Maybe this is just bad day, I'll be ok tomorrow. :signLOL:

Yeah but a turbo'd R32 would drink the juice, where as a tuned k04 would be much more reasonable and have a lighter front end!  I just really want som 4WD fun!

No, I really like them, I'm not saying I'd sell the S3 to buy one, but if I were buying from fresh I think they represent good value for the performance, I also think they look a bit different which i like

The Leon is a good choice, I  may have mentioned my brothers recent company car choice was a White FR, black wheels and all the toys (satnav, xenons etc) and it really was good value.  In fact they got £2k off list too.

im a big fan of big hatches and saloons like the BMW/A4 old shape suburu etc.  Hence why i ended up choosing the vRS over the Cupra.  So wish i had checked up on the forums though and found out about the turbo difference.

There is a guy up the road from me with a mazda6 MPS.  dont really know him so cant exactly ask him for a spin lol.  but its got an awesome exhaust system on it, and destroyed my vRS when i was at stage 2+ so im guessing he has had it mapped as well.

that's the same as me as I been doing hatch backs for years and I want a change now. I am in the scooby more than the golf now even if it's not as fast it's just not a hatchback

I doubt there would be much in it tbh and the money saved on a turbo would be put towards fuel? Lighter front end wont make a difference with 500bhp  :signLOL:

If you want 4wd fun just get an old evo or imprezza as its cheaper than both of the above to buy and tune!
