Hiya Guys
Can anyone help???
Just fitted a detachable towbar and Specific Wiring kit
All bought from 'Towquipe'
fitting the towbar no problems
but the wiring thats a different story LOL!
it was a sort of 'plug and play' ie no cutting of loom just a couple of wires from the each of the rear
light connectors
Cheers

Hi Stu, I fitted a towbar to my 55 plate GTI. The issue is that the wiring is canbus and no power available from the rear lights.
I had to buy a switching box (technical term for it but don't remember what) it is needed for any canbus cars. I then ran power from the rear aux socket to the switch box, then you run links from each of the rear lights (indicators r & l, fogs, brake, side) to the relavant input on the switch box, then outlet from the switch box to the din trailer socket.
Then when the low voltage canbus operates a light it switches the box and supplies power from the live feed to the relavant pin on the din trailer socket.
Without a switching box you have no hope, hope it is in your kit!
Here is an example off fleabay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-Way-Bypass-Relay-Towbar-Towing-Electrics-Protect-Car-/290419575387?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item439e5b0a5b
HTH helps
