Is anyone able to help me with a part number for this? I'd rather have the deeper storage and easier access to the power supply, without the lid of the closed ash-try.
Many thanks!

Cheers for that - any idea what the 2nd and 3rd items are though? I'm a bit confused as to how something positioned in front of the gear selector is effected by the arm rest?

they are the rubber mats that go into the compartment.
the first one is the big one that u need.
the 2nd one with the A in it is a smaller version which goes into stowage compartment with the lid cover (that you currently have)
I have the open one aswell and mat if you want it. I removed it from my Roc as I wanted the closed lid version from the GTI.

I didn't realise you could do this swap? I would probably do this as I think it looks better with the cover rather than just a hole... Can this definately be done?

Correct - Perhaps not quite as aethetically pleasing, but more functional. The open bin is a lot deeper that the closed ash tray and offers better access to the 12V supply. I have the centre arm rest for concealed storage anyway.
If anyone has one they fancy getting shot of, please drop me a PM - thanks.

you have pm!

THanks for the PN's on this, think im gonna order these bits for mine too as the ashtray is a waste of space as its never gonna get smoked in and the storage is handy to have and better for having the car charger plugged in
-
This just summarises how you always want what you haven't got :signLOL:

Glad I'm not the only one - was starting to feel like I was a bit odd for going the other way. Could even make a profit sticking the ash tray on eBay too...
-
It seems odd they have them TBH as when i ordered my GT TDi the ashtray was an extra to be paid for, this storage compartment was the standard fitment on the car.
-
BTW i assume these do fit still if you have the centre arm rest and the vents to the rear as this is a lot deeper looking than the ashtray?
