Update:
Well, we have a failure due to the bell spec. Whilst they were fine for race/hot climate applications (for what they were actually designed) when you can run without a splash guard, it wasn't fine for me.
I couldn't get a decent enough fit on the guard and due to the offset of the discs, they were a little closer to the lower ball joint then I'd have liked.
So I discussed it with the people who buy in the AP kits and do the custom bells & carriers, and rather than re-engineer them to my spec I decided to call it a day and just go for something off the shelf... it makes it easier in the future.
I'm in the process of deciding between a few kits, an AP kit that'll be available for the VWRacing Scirocco race car in around 4 weeks, VWRacing's own stoppers and some Alcons. The latter a leftfield choice but also come with an excellent reputation and being a little cheaper, it'd also mean I wouldn't have to stretch my savings for my new wheels - so I have some thinking to do!!!
Strange thing is, I'm not annoyed - more a little red faced as I feel like I was crowing on here and now it's gone tits up, I'll be more modest in the future!!
Nothing is ever easy when you go off piste, eh? - GRRRR!
Brake filth, ohh I feel duuurty!

I am jealous as hell but surely those lentil brake pads would not be effective unless soaked in water. :ashamed:

-
Booked in for next Wednesday - Can't wait!

I strongly advise you not to use those brakes and will altrustically take them off your hands for free...

Very nice indeed! Should we be asking how much??? :chicken:
-
I think they delivered my lentil supply to you by mistake mate :signLOL:
Look the business, pics when fitted stop on a penny those fellows will
-
god I hate you...
-
I'm assuming those are 6 pots for the GTi? What size are they?
What's the standard size disc on a GTi?
-
Yum! lentils. Whats the big round thing next to it? lol!
-
NICE STOPPERS :happy2:
-
Look stunning, what's the brake feel like when you upgrade to 6 pot?
-
Greenhouse, I pretty much got them for cost, sadly I can't do that again though!
Shins, they're a GTI specific 360mm kit.
Matt, I haven't driven a GTI on 6-pots, however I've played with APs before and they're very progressive and very powerful - not like some of the other kits that aren't matched well and end up a bit on/off.
-
You're a very lucky man Mr Tony_Danza!
-
Have to say im very pleased with the brakes on the gti. We have a cooper s and everytime i go from the mini to the golf i almost put myself through the windscreen  In comparison, the cooper s brakes are far to weak for a 170 bhp car which is almost as fast as the golf
-
i agree with you on the oem cooper s brakes, very weak, quickly swapped them for a porsche big brake.
-
nice one, how much are the pads for those?
-
First post updated.
-
Unlucky fella
Im sure you'll be chuffed with whatever you end up with.
P.S. Lovin the new sig :happy2:
-
Alcons FTW, so all is not lost - JonnyC gave me some very good advice, and it means I can afford the new wheels that land on Friday easily. So everything works out in the end.
LOL - f*** 'bags! I've had stickers made up for funsies
-
I had 6 pot AP's on my last car, and they were a little compromised for day to day driving, i would go with AP 4 pots if i was to buy now
-
Yeah, that seems to be the thinking - 4pots with big discs being the "balance".
Will report on Alcons when they've arrived & been fitted next week.
