Title: Next mod? New tyres :)
Post by: Tfsi_Mike on May 05, 2010, 10:52:35 am
Would like some ideasof where I should go next with the car.

Currently:

ITG, APR Cooler, APR HPFP, APR stage 2+, RS4 valve, Forge dv, BSH pcv fix, 3" miltek DP, miltek TBE, sasch clutch disk

KW V3, WALK, neuspeed arbs, BSH engine & transmision mounts, VWR lower mount,

Thinking about waiting and saving for hybrid & jabbasports mapping
or trying giac extreme+ both options with water meth.

Also thinking of trying 888s and trying to get some PR 1.2s (would they be much lighter than the CHs though?)

ideas?

Do your worst haha

Nice nice spec already Mike.  Did you say you were looking at a diff?  Def think the PR 1.2s would be a good idea.

There will be a noticeable difference with the TD's and semi slicks.

Looks like you have already gone pretty much as far as you can with the OEM K04.  So like you say have a look at the hybrid option or perhaps go BT.

Have you thought about going stage 3/4 with APR?  Howabout about a GT3071r and go stage 3 with REVO?

Get a WOTbox fitted, I've been in Owenlcr's car and it's foooooooking amazing.

Also you need a Quaife ATB LSD

Also The new OZ superturismo WRC wheels (7kg for 18's ) alongside TOYO R1R's (best compromise for road and track and don't sound as loud as R888's)

I'd wait on the hybrid K04 to see what Jabbalad's car performs like - you may need REVO stage 3 to get the best from it.

revo stage 3 is for k03 cars converting to k04!!!

Surely the best option would be to let to jabba custom map it as they should have already done their own car by that point.

Ah forgot about the wot box :)

might get one in the next few weeks. Then wmi. When I get back to Germany I'll get my wheels and tres duty free and by then the ko4 hybrid will be tried and tested :)

what do the td 1.2s weigh in 18" ?

above40hp
look at it this way you are already at stage 2+ realistically looking at aout 340-360hp.  so your car is by no means slow in any way shape or form

So until the new hybrid is setup and you have sen the results of the WMI lets take a look at the handling/braking, which lets be fair is probably more important than the power.

your running a lot of power through just the front wheels, ive driven yours and we both know its not hard to get the wheels spinning, and with those new tyres id bet they are even worse lol.

Id say with  your suspension you are sorted, you have one of the top few suspension kits, ARBs and WALK, so your pretty much as far as you can go, so how else could you reduce te wheelspin/gain traction both in the straight line and whilst cornering which  wil ultimately make your car faster.

LSD (better traction off the line and whilst cornering plus reduced understeer)
TT lower control arms(much more cornering grip)
Poly bush the entire car( more steering feel and responsiveness)
R8 rear 4 pot calipers to bolt on straight over your 345mm discs (better brakes is aleays a plus, with a wider choice of performance pads available)

.....

What you really need, Mike, is a JCaps black anodised alu washer bottle cap - I just happen to know where you can get one at much less cost than retail

Otherwise I'd say:

- Lighterweight wheels - TD or OZ
- TT wishbones
- Quaife ATB diff

Owen and I will be racing each other this coming Sunday at Crail. I have no WOT Box and still have my a/c. Most of the other mods being are similar except he has a 3" VF Intake vs my Evoms, his the only car running the new GIAC Extreme Plus file where mine is Revo S2+. He will also have on his light wheels and I wont as they are off being refinished and he is now decat and I dont think I will have mine removed by then due to work being too busy.

It will be interesting to see how his car goes. I am expecting it to be faster than mine (my time being 13.2 @ 114mph). 12's maybe? Would love it if it was  :happy2:

SteveJnr at Statlers seemed certain the TT Ball joints would go on the cupra    If they do thats a mod for this month!

How much are the R8 Calipers??     Lighter that the mammoth cupra ones Im guessing? (and sexier!)

Ill see if I can squeeze in the WOT box before I go back to Germany mid June too

when you are running an uprated fuelpump and software requesting 130bar of fuel pressure you have problems with the stock fuel pressure regulator valve as its limit is 127bar, rs4 valve has a limit of 132bar  :happy2:

as i wanted APR, s3 was the way to go. perhaps if (when) i go APR stage 3 or similar and custom coding i will consider rs4 injectors.  :happy2:

Don't really follow?  APR recommend uprated rods for their stage 3 100 octane file so why would uprating the rods and pisotns be a problem?

A different compression ratio would require different software to allow for the different volume, timing and fuelling. The APR software would still work, but it wouldn't be as effective

Managed the RS4 valve, BSH PCV Fix, WALK, BSH mounts and aircon condenser out last week/week before, also fitted td 1.2s

Sooooo, before I go back to Germany in the next few weeks its looking like my choices are;

2 Tyres - 888, R1R, Hankook etc - (have worn vreds atm)
Sachs pressure plate to compliment sachs disc, (£260 fitted)
WMI, (£350 fitted)
Forge actuator (£275 fitted)

or open to suggestions.  Im thinking about waiting 'till I come back and end of Aug having another mod spree....

Just spoke to bruce and the WMI kit I want for the car is comming from the states and out of stock.

I think Im going to focus my efforts (and savings) into researching a DSG conversion for the Cupra.

Dont plan on getting rid of it for a while so lots of time to get where I want to be with it (the list is endless!)
Title: Re: Next mod?
Post by: Janner_Sy on May 13, 2010, 04:26:09 pm
As much as DSG is a great, i dont think it would be that much of an improvment to justify the very likely LARGE cost of supply and fitting.

plenty of other things available to make your car go faster.

top mounts, TT arms, better lightweight brakes, LSD, forge actuator, hybrid turbo, custom mapping, WMI.  All of which would make more of a difference to the car in the bends, and most of them wil make it faster on the strip than what the DSG conversion would.

Of that list for me, it would have to be the diff and the control arms.  Diff will make your car put down the power better, thus making it faster, and the control arms and LSD it will make you corner like a house fly with all you other mods.

im no expert but id imagine having far more grip on the front would cause the back end to step out and that cant be safe when gining it beans round a corner.

its not that bad an idea mike, m personally id do it, but im quite confident that i can control it when it happens.  you need to ask yourself wil you react to it correctly.

its easily sorted though.  get some geo done on he car, and get them to add a little more negative camber on the rear of the car.  that will give it more grip and it will be less likely to snap into oversteer.

In fact you said you are going to wheels in motion. those guys are the mutts nuts at geo setup, tell them you ant to put R888s on the front, and you dont want to get to much oversteer, and they will square it away for you.

The car feels like hard work at the moment. A mix of worn rear tyres and the trauma the front suspension gets with the horrendous roads back home.  However with it tightened up and realigned Id be fairly confident in keeping it inline.

Is a good idea to discuss with them that setup.  Other wise ill get another pair of F1s for when I kill the R888s

....That's right. And even if you factor in better grip (on track) with the 888's, that's only if it's bone dry. A bit of wet would play havoc I reckon.

why would it cause havoc.  in the wet with R888s on the front and eagle f1's on the rear, IMO the worst that would happen really is the car would understeer more as the rear would be outgripping the front.

that said matching the tyres is the best plan, but just fronts isnt a lethal combination

I go back in 3 weeks so id hope so  :surprised:  They really that soft?

Not really an experiment.  Was just my idea two have these four 888s as 2 pairs for the front and a set of good years for the rear.  Only reasoning behind it was the rears will last longer.

Think im just going to put the 888s on all round and then when theyre dead use the good years  :happy2:

ive been in one of the guys on briskoda with a 500Hp mk1 stripped out vRS with diff and R888s on the front with pilot sports 2s on the rear and it wasnt bad at all.

pretty much all the track days in my vRS have been done with mixed tyres.  originally had exaltos all round.

wore out the fronts, fitted toyo T1Rs on the front and let the exaltos on the rear.  the result no issues.
put the toyos on the rear fitted vred sessantas to the front.   the result-no issues.

granted R888s have a big grip advantage, but each of the above front tyres were large improvements in grip on the tyres they replaced.

TBH mike you only paid £150 for the toyos. For that price id stick em all on and use them for the summer.  then replace them tax free later.
but if you want to just use them on the fronts, do it. ive been in the car with you, you dont drive like a tool, so i dont for'see that much of an issue provided that you remember you are running this tyre setup

The R888's are fine up to 80mph (abroad!)...even with standing water, above that when very wet they are prone to aquaplaning. In the damp the R888's still have more grip than normal road tyres as long as you can get a little heat in them, which shouldn't be a problem throughout the summer. As for mixing tyres IDK as I've never tried it. I do know someone who is running R1R's up front and Sessanta's on the rear and the car handles fine in both the wet and dry without any extra ESP interference, and he doesn't hang around with his car.

....Then I stand to be corrected.

I was only able to go on my own (limited) experience of mixing asymmetric with directional tyres in fast road use and irritatingly actioning the ESP and killing any smooth flow.

Personally I'd still be inclined to put the R888's on the front and asymmetric road tyres on the rear axle.
