Title: RNS 510 again
Post by: Dai-Click on May 05, 2010, 08:38:23 pm
Hi,  I know this has been done to death but I am trying to get a definative, 100% answer as to the version of CAN gateway needed to ensure no battery drain issues when retro fitting a RNS510.  I have a March 2007 ED30 with Can Gateway "K" according to VCDS scan. I managed to clear all the faults after fitting but have 1 question.

answer #2 states that "K" or above will be OK - is this correct?? as I'm sure I have read elsewhere that it needs to be at least "L"

Any advice would be appreciated as I would like to upgrade from SW 1100 to SW2680 for the extras but don't want to run into battery problems as I don't use my car every day.

No problems for me. I have k version gateway with B revison RNS-510 (HW:11) retrofitted. Originally running fw 1120 and now running 2680 for a few months now with no battery drain problems.

I had a similar thread a while ago.

Ron,

thanks for that - looks like I'll give it a go.

Did you lose Maps & music when you upgraded to 2680?
Where did you get the updated fw?

Where did you get the updated fw?

There are a couple of working download links if you search my-gti.com

Thanks for your replies - I have downloaded the 26XX firmware and burnt to a CD so just have to go for it :scared:

Will the unit switch itself off after 30 mins or will it stay on till the upgrade is finished,  I believe that takes some 50minutes

How do I ensure the RNS stays on without the ignition on for long enough?

Thanks

David

RNS will know the firmware is being updated and won't turn off until it needs to reboot itself
