-
very nice. Its proper 4wd not haldex as well isnt it??
-
for 35k it better be awd  thats golf r money :P
-
If my memory serves me right the RS4 uses the Audi Torsen diff which is permanent 4wd with a 40:60 power split under normal driving conditions :happy2:
Absolute wicked car :driver:
-
mat , the S3 is a great car :driver: £35k is golf R money but this awesome piece of kit is leaps and bounds ahead of the R
if you think the r32 has a sound track you need to hear this :drool:and the drive :drool:and the power .......
-
i dont like hatch backs that much anyway. saloons look way cooler
-
the s3 is a great car but dull to look at sorry it just does nothing for me at all :ashamed: i dont know  why. The rs4 is an awesome car and they sound
-
etto with the S3 but looks better than the people carrier shape of the golf !!
i m of to hide
-
for c35k i would go for the e90 m3 over the rs4, quicker and dare i say it a bit more precise - i have seen some going for less than 30k too and i am certainly tempted
-
 rs4  your s3 both stunning cars

did you get to drive or get a passenger in the RS4?
rs4 was my boyhood dream car and I swore to myself when I was 16 that I would buy one, but having been in one I have been left disapointed. Doesnt sound all that, and not that fast for what many people see as one step down from a supercar. A stage 2 plus s3 will be quicker. Also albeit I wasnt driving it, everything was too relaxed and calm for me, no real drama, just smooth power, maybe even a bit boring, but then again maybe disregard everything which I have said as Im the type who would have a road going go kart as a daily car.
Would take a new m3 for 35k instead of a rs4 also.
-
I went from Stage 2 S3 to RS4. Not much in it performance wise, but thatS it. Everything else is so much better about the RS, steering, brakes, linear power and the noise - I did have a Milltek though!! I say go for it, just make sure it has a warranty, and the brakes are new, best part of 1600 all in!! Every trip is just an experience. Well it wants to be, mine averaged 16mpg or so over 7000 miles!
Do it, you won't regret it.
-
Bit random but does the RS4 give that shove in the back feeling?
-
Er yes. At 11 secs or so to 100, you know about it!
-
for 35k it better be awd  thats golf r money :P
Hahaha quality. Golf R or RS4, tough one that!!
-
Er yes. At 11 secs or so to 100, you know about it!
Thought so, but you'd think that in an S5 which wasn't the case.
-
....
Follow your dream, Ian! An RS4 will suit your family needs best imo. The only prob is the mpg! I don't like saloons - waste of space for me and limited load dimension capacity - but the RS4 is the best 4-door saloon. V8 rules!
[notice how I've helped you to convince the missus]
-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fzz259%2Follie288%2Fbmwm3.jpg&hash=892d3760b55c64ef8c6e65361466fd2ef7e417a7)

....Not what would suit Ian's family I guess, but that BMW is pure sex! I'd be very seriously interested in that if it suited my lifestyle but I already know that a 2-door Beemer doesn't.
-
for 35k it better be awd  thats golf r money :P
Hahaha quality. Golf R or RS4, tough one that!!
....Aha! Voila! This here is the perfect example: An RS4 would far better suit Ian's family needs but a Golf R would far better suit my needs.
Not tough at all for either Ian or myself to decide. Capice? Do you get it at last? :P You sell people cars don't you.. so you ought to. :happy2:
-
when it was time to leave my MK4 .:R32 i went to the Audi dealership to buy my RS4, sat in the chair and found the one i wanted on their dealer network, the call was made and it had sold that morning so i would have to wait. during that wait the opportunity of getting a MK5 .:R32 in candy reared its ugly head and money was burning a hole in my pocket so i bought one
would still love to own an RS4 though, but i think the M3 itch needs to be scratched first... that is of course unless i accidentally fall into a Focus RS
-
Audi very kindly let me have an RS4 for a day at Silverstone some time back - with the not-so secret ESP properly off setting done it was deffo in the top 5 finest cars I've driven, there's something just so about them. Better than an E46 M3... not quite an E90.
Who cares if something else will beat it in a straight line? That's childish idiots for you.
-
Candy!!! Do it. Rs4 for sure. Great car. ( was looking for the photo of your missus flashing her cahoona's a while back :signLOL:)
But youve removed it :sad1:
Go with your heart mate
-
My friend has just been making this very same choice, for ages his dream car had been a 911, but having looked at a few he decided he couldnt live with them as a daily car. So it came down to RS4 or M5, taking into account he'd already had two S3's, S4 then the later RS4 version he decided on the M5, 07 plate loads of extras, £34k and he loves it :driver:
i myself, would take RS4 anyday, drove an MTM tuned one, it left me smiling for days :jumpmove:
-
thanks guys , the day to day cost of owning an rs4 does appear to be quite high compared to the S3
robin , family ?? its just me and mrs candy ! and she dont drive my car any way , dont even allow her in the garage , women can be clumsy at that age
sorry steve i did nt remove the pic , was powers above ! no cahoona s on view any way :happy2:
-
you might get this car. lol love the commercial. My father got one !!! &feature=related

Reminds me of myself. I have a very-nearly-19yo daughter who has hot friends . A 5-door GTI provides very well
-
sorry to go off topic but I had to post this....one of my all time fave VW ads
-
Bit random but does the RS4 give that shove in the back feeling?
Not really mate. Driven 2 (had nightmares about 1 for 14 months now :scared:) and although they aren't exactly slow, the power delivery was far to boring for me. Just didn't feel quick at all (weird I know).
Not that they aren't good cars as they obviously are and a great all round package. But for me and the money I would have a E92 M3. Quicker, nicer looking (IMO) and more fun.
-
^^^^
Yep, I agree Ben, the Audi isn't as raw and alive as the Beemer. The RS4 is an awesome car but just a bit more civilised and some of us prefer a wilder character.
-
well i love every thing about the RS4 but i think ill have to wait a while , extra £12k for car group 20 insurance !!maximum tax band and some of the service quotes i got from audi today are staggering :sad1: one day :innocent:
-
Er yes. At 11 secs or so to 100, you know about it!

S5 has a different engine, even though its the same size, it puts out 70 bhp less or so.

Hard, wise and sensible decision I think Ian.. As it's easy to fall in love with something and think f**k it, only to think :scared: a few months down the road..

So how long is it till your back on the road now Ben?
-
6 1/2 weeks bud.. :jumping: Couldn't come a day to soon I tell ya. Got the DVLA form to fill in to send off for my licence, so not long now.. :jumpmove:
-
love them, its the only car the ed30 would make way for. Had a play with one last week epic noise and not to shabby either.

Like you would of got insured on one!
-
i was perving on a new shape m3 today for only about....................20minutes...............and i have decided they are possibly my dream car of the moment (this changes frequently) but they are just a very very classy but aggressive fast but comfortable car.
Knowing a guy that had the previous m3 (im not down with the E numbers  ) and then got a rs4 saloon then avant (his son took his saloon for a roll at 140!gulp!) but he absolutely ranted about his m3 and how good it was and he raced cars for years.
But he also loved his rs4...personal preference i guess!
oh and his son was fine which is a credit to audi safety!

its all specific. post code, driving history, storage, anything they ask you over the phone or on a comparison site is relevant, why? thats the mystery of insurance robbers...i mean companies

I thought it would be quite difficult to get an M3 or RS4 at 21 even if you have full NCB and garaged etc. I thought maybe you were on a traders policy.

3 yrs ncb, sh*t south east london postcode, 1 non fault claim, driveway parking.
Will no insurance companies touch him then, as in actually refuse to cover him regardless of the cost?
When I was 20 I was getting quotes on the cupra of 3k, and when I tried to accept it they would tell me that they couldnt cover me on the car even though they gave me a price online. It was the specialists who saved the day in the end for me.
-
My hat is off to you Poverty. Eye watering insurance figures and you dont even flinch....either that or you won the euro millions!
-

Haha I wish. Im just used to it.
When I was a first year apprentice plumber, taking home 900 a month I saved up 3.5k to pay for my first car, fookin took me half a year that did thinking I could buy a car outright. Did some insurance quotes and ended up spending 3k of that on insuring my 1.4 seat ibiza, then had 500 left for deposit on the car and had to finance the rest :scared:
Still those were good times, learnt so much in that car. :signLOL:
Trouble is if your young and you live in or around a major city you have to pay to play.
-
i had an escort rs turbo when i was 18 and i thought £500 was too much back then (rs turbo was top group back then ) :signLOL:
-
haha been there done that (then i wrote off my first car which never...ever helps!) big city doesnt help i guess.
Im 21 in september and cant wait! just in time for an s3 maybe?
Thats the plan anyway!
£500? i dream of that, no really i do! im paying double for a 1.8T Polo GTI which i guess isnt tooooo bad
-

Not too shabby, when I was 20 I was getting renewales of 700 on the ibiza, so was like fook that and got the cupra
It does go down massively when 21 though, my premium pretty much halved on the cupra. Still dear though.

you guys dont know how good you had it then. Probably because there wasnt such a big claim culture back then.
When I got my first car and I was telling old people how much insurance was they all thought I was either a liar or just not searching hard enough which used to annoy the hell out of me. 17 year olds on their own insurance are nearly uninsurable. Unless you have a pair of tits ofcourse.
-
nea i know its not toooo bad. but still it cud be alot better haha especially as im eyeing up a bigger boys toy! Im pleased uv sed it comes down alot at 21 aswell, ease my also apprentice wages! haha
as for claim culture dont even go there! makes me angry and iv decided if i get ran in the back of im gona cause hell and claim loads and loads just to make up for the over the odds iv had to pay as a result of day light thieves!!.......rant over! haha :innocent:

Its a nasty circle these days but appears that everyone now has to play that game, because no one will hesitate to do it to you.
What trade are you in?
S3 is a lovely motor btw, thats what I was choosing between before I got my k1.
-
Commercial Refrigeration and Air Con my man.
Yeah im hoping to have a blast in a friends in a few weeks. Was looking at few of the guys on here and after a few bolt ons your looking at 330-350bhp!! << i like this!
-
Yeah it doesnt take alot to get big power, and its fookin addictive too.
You will soon find that running the car can cost as much as buying the car, 450 a month on v power I spend on average, the joys of stage 2 plus and 14mpg. Worth every penny though, especially when you see the look on those RS4 drivers faces
-
have you a build link? stage 2+? i like this too!! haha 14mpg!!!!! :surprised: :scared: :surprised: lambo figures...gulp!
but worth it i agree. very much worth it...haha forget rs4's. I like playing with vectras!
-
im WOT 90% of the time though bud, would be in its 20's otherwise.
Heres a build thread, bits n bobs missing though and its come to a abrupt end really, blame it on the future audi.

love it! little RS story was sweet too haha very detailed build. I like this alot. You running a REVO remap?
what audi you going for mate?

yeah running revo.
TTRS is what im after next bud
-
ooooh i have mixed opinions on the TTRS...il throw my opinion to you see what you think
I cant justify the price! i saw one in my local audi garage at 45k a TTS is around 33k granted only 265bhp but that means your paying 12k for 60bhp...surely you cud get a 100bhp extra out of a TTS for 12k? Id be looking at low mileage a year old motors!
But if ur hearts set dont get the fixed spoiler! i think it is a spoiler of the looks! :signLOL: < see what i did there ha

lol, I think the TTS is a more beautiful car than the TTRS in stock form, but once im done with it and its stanced etc the TTRS will look the nuts.
Couldnt buy a TTS anyway as its the same engine as my cupra, so no quicker. TTRS will be doing around 490hp on the hybridised stock turbo which is why I want one, oh and for the sound.
They are expensive though, but Im finally not considered a qualified "apprentice" but a qualified and experienced engineer so on a better wage now and I think a TTRS will be a nice treat. Gonna be fun modding her.

I look forward to seeing this develop! where abouts you based?
I agree, its good to treat urself. 490bhp? theres not much thats gona keep up with you chap! Can u not opt for the active spoiler of the TTS.
Yeah i suppose if your gona shell out you want to go for a bigger engine. Fair play. You cast your eyes over the awesome RR day results? Few TTRS's to wet your apetite! :happy2:
Haha!! Red wades in with the funnies!

Im from south east london mate how about yourself?
You can opt for a active spoiler, but looking on the TT forums they can sometimes become troublesome so I will stick with a static one.
Yeah have been keeping a eye on how jamie and jonnyc are getting on with their TTRS, they have both come from basically the car I have got now and they cannot say enough good things about the RS even without a map so it must be good.
-
what do revo quote on them?
hmm I can appreciate that, the more moving parts the more to go wrong i guess!
Im East Mids - Lincolnshire.
Whens the TTRS due on your driveway then?

Revo are still developing the stage 1 map, going by competitors figures I would presume 410 to 415hp stage 1, maybe even 420hp at a push.
Im hoping to get it after I come back from holiday so late august or mid september time, want a white one or maybe a metallic grey
-
thats sweet! ooh holiday and an RS! haha definately euro millions :P
410-420bhp would be pelvis pushing! Would you not consider a GTR? considering the video you posted?
You taking your cupra to Inters?
-
whens inters? Everyones talking about it!
Would love a GTR but heard too many horror stories about them and you really do need deep pockets to run one of those. Also old men struggle to insure them at times so I have no chances :signLOL:
-
I'd love a sub 1K figure, I pay 1400 for a 1.4 Golf at 19!! They just give my brother silly quotes which no one in their right mind would take (7k+) if they even give a quote. That's around an OK postcode uswel.
-

I'm sure you younger bucks already realise that the reason your insurance premiums are so high (assuming you can get insured at all!) is due to those idiots who are so stupid and irresponsible in their driving. The sheer quantity of insurance claims from such people results in high premiums - The insurance risks cannot be ignored by the market.
Those who are focussed and responsible in their driving, unfortunately pay the price - That's probably most of you.
-
Pov - Inters is on the 26th & 27th June and most of the boys will be there, in cluding even me AND my car :jumpmove:  :jumping:
You need to get yourself up the M1 and attend mate. Great day/weekend (most off on Sunday) and 0-60mph and 1/4mile action to boot. Be good to put this Cupra off yours on the strip and also meet the Cockney Racer..
-
will come down on the sunday, only ever took her down the strip when she was stock, kept meaning on going this year but the powers from above have been stopping me and the cupra from going :fighting:
-
Good lad :happy2: Be good to put a face to a name/car  It's a cracking day mate whether you run or not and some quick motors too..

-
Yes mate, live in Lincoln itself. Will be heading down Sunday morning with my mate in his Stage 2+ S3. More than welcome to convoy down with us. :happy2:
Where about in Lincs are you?
-
Im glad this thread is up! I was going to get a bike in the next few months and save for a car for the end of 2011 and run some £1k crap box.
Now i have decided to just finance a car and its either S3 or RS4 avant! Im swaying towards the S3 in all honesty though. A map makes it as quick as the RS4 but it comes with lower running costs. The noise is pushing me toward the RS4 though, which was a major factor in the R32 purchase. Theres also the fact everyone on R32oc trades up to and RS4 as its a bigger faster R32 basically.
Im still undecided though! I have around 25-30k to spend but the if i go for the S3 i would spend £20k and have more to use for other interests including mods for the S3
Which ever i choose will be my car for the next 5 years so it needs to be a good choice :scared:

Sounds to me mate like you've already answered your own question. Yeah the RS4 can be picked up for the money you are looking at spending (early example), but just think of the running costs for the next 5 years... :scared:
Ian (Candy Turbo) priced one up with regards running, servicing, insurance etc and it was considerably more to run in all areas than his S3.
Stage 2+ S3 FTW I say.. :pomppomp:

You're looking at under 20 mpg when you're out enjoying yourself in a RS4/S4.

yes i love the rs4 but you will notice that most have had quite a few owners i think this is down to running costs , mention rs4 in audi dealers and £££££ just appear in there eyes
robin , 20 mpg is good if your "enjoying " the drive 10 is more realistic !

....Yep, I said under 20 mpg. A friend with a S4 V8 gets about 12 mpg when enjoying it but the mpg will of course vary.
Either way, the point is that the S4/RS4's drink large quantities of petrol.
