Hi,
I just bought a 2005 Mk5 Golf GTI which is an exceptionally tidy example except for the tailgate badge/handle which has got some unsightly white corrosion on.
I have visited my local dealership who claim the part alone is £94 and is not a DIY job to replace.
I'm sure my car will not be the only one to have suffered this problem. Can anyone advise on a cheaper way to source this part and confirm if it is a DIY fix or requires a visit to the garage to do the job well?
I have search eBay without much success and breakers seem reluctant to remove these sealed units from boot lids as it must make them harder to sell without the handles.
All advice gratefully received.
Cheers,
Simon

The early versions are known to suffer from white worm.
Have a look at my how to guide on installing the rear camera as that shows how to remove the boot trim and badge/handle :happy2:

Very much DIY-able, and should take about 1-2 hours.
