Title: front end noise/vibration
Post by: shamrock on May 13, 2010, 09:43:15 pm
Hey guys!

I purchased a 2008 S3 about half a year ago and I noticed that while going slowly over small ditches and ruts that there was a loudish noise from the front end.  I never really cared cause I was just so in love with the car.  I believe that now it is louder and when I turn the steering wheel back and forth while the car is stationary there is a clunking/clacking sound.  The car has always been driven like a baby and it has only 16000 km.  Where I come from there are only 13 S3's and the mechanics here are lying thieves.  I would appreciate it if anyone could give me a heads up as to what is wrong.  Thanks!!

Bart

I am doing duty in Israel.  There are only twelve S3's here and I don't trust the mechanics.  Unfortunatley I have no choice but to go to one; hence, I would like to show them that I know a little of what is happening.  The car only has 16000 km and was never driven hard.  What could break down with such little driving?

Even if you know nothing about cars, you'd be surprised how much you can learn just by having a look. Get under the car and move the wheels, jiggle them, get someone to move the steering, etc. all while you're looking at it. Something might be very obviously broken.

PS. Don't get under the car with just a jack holding up the car -- you need proper stands or a ramp.
