Title: Weston Motorsport Mk5 Rolling Road Day
Post by: SteveP on November 01, 2008, 05:25:38 pm
Firstly thanks to DaveFish at R32OC for organising the day apart from the cold weather a good time was had by all  :happy2:

I will let the Greenouse and RedRobin post there results themselves, but needless to say we showed the R32 boys a thing or two

I saw an improvement on my last Dyno Dynamics days at JKM with power now up to 288.9BHP and 262 FT LB.

Here are a few pic's from the day (I have saved a special one for the caption competition) : -

Very good results for the Greenouse! but I can't steal his thunder and will let him post his graph etc, I am sure he will be along shortly once he's watched the GP qualifying  :driver:

While waiting for "Green - my figures start with a 3 and everyone else's start with a 2 - ouse" to put up his heres my graph: -

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FStevep_010%2FWeston%2FIMG_0848.jpg&hash=40e13f8290638814f1b3be50bfb9a0313da24910)

Even though I was well pleased with the results the best part of the day was some fun we had with the R32 boys after breakfast at Maccy D's.

I was side by side with one of them doing about 30 and we both hit the go pedal, after an initial traction issue he rapidly started to disappear in my mirror  :driver:

Later on DaveFish said the guy had commented to him how surprised he was about how quick the GTI's are

....Don't worry, Nathan - I upset the R32 boys for you. It's true! Ask anyone there - When your plots appeared on the screen, there was a gasp from everyone assembled and a R32 guy said "Whose car is that!!?" obviously thinking it was a .:R and they all rushed to the screen. But I, quick as a flash, loudly answered "Oh, it must be a GTI" at which us GTI guys fell about laughing and the R32 lads were slightly speechless but then also laughed as they appreciated the banter.

Lol, that's not quite how it happened. I think we all realised it was a GTI as you could see it through the window. Still shocking though, and yes, you did rub it in lol. "Over 300bhp, that must be a GTI" I think was your comment haha.

Really good day, I think having a few GTI's added to the occasion. I'll organise another one in Spring/Summer 2009  :happy2:

There is supposed to be a good VAG tuner in Peterborough, can't remember their name, but they were popular on VAGweb.  I'd defo be up for that.

Dunno about Leicester though, havn't been there for a while now, and when I do go, RRs are the last thing I look for.

Jabbasport have a Rolling Road and are familiar with VAG tuning. Not sure how good it is but they are a well known company based in Peterbrough. http://www.jabbasport.com/index.php (http://www.jabbasport.com/index.php)

You should try to make it to the next Weston Meet in 2009 though chap. More the merrier!

Sadly, my ill health can seriously dent any plans I make.  Somedays, I could drive from Lands End to John O Groats without stopping - well apart from some Tesco 99, other days, I can hardly make it to the shops.  Hence why I tend never to make plans.

I still prefer the sound of the Mk4 R32's on Millteks etc.

Would the downpipe and cat make a non-res milltek system alot louder on a GTi?

Obviously it would, but would it be that loud ?

anyone got the full non res - system ?

Yeh mine is the full non res system and it's only loud when you press the loud pedal hard! Apart from that it's just a background burble

There's a difference, but not a massive one. The biggest difference obv is when you put the DP on

Full TBE non-res is the way forward  :jumpmove: I was a bit sceptical at first about getting the non-res because I did not want it to sound like a bad boy Nova but the sound is just perfect! Not boomy at all and perfectly sedate when driving normally. When the loud pedal is pressed hard it sounds fantastic. I love going through tunnels and giving it the beans  :jumpmove: :happy2:

There is one right near mt house on my way to work! I just cant stop nailing it through it every morning. I bet the local residents hate me  :P I went through it in my neighbours Fezza 360 spider the other day with the roof down. He has a full Tubi exhaust system on it, the sound was just pure heaven, it made my car sound like a 1.0 Micra  :ashamed:

It's all quite subtle sound differences with various Milltek systems - Nothing to be worried about. None of the sounds are at all boy-racer but just sporty. When you work your revs harder then the sound gets much more exciting.

Mentioned the GTI domination in my latest blog entry

I'll sort another one out in the spring/summer. I genuinely really enjoyed having the GTI's there. I'm thinking next time we make a theme out of it. Maybe R32 Vs GTI RR Shootout. We all go on the rollers and the winning "team" is the team with the highest average power. Now based on last time we'd get thrashed lol but we have a few turbo guys who could make it pretty interesting

What do you think?

....322 miles in greasy conditions on all sorts of roads yesterday, with about 240 bhp and Quaife ATB diff = Not one single case of TC lighting up and I wasn't hanging about as I was intent on testing my car with its new turbo.

:smug:

Joking apart, a Quaife/Peloquin diff could help.

At about £1,500 all inclusive of installation and vat (for DSG), it's not cheap and possibly not worth it if you don't intend keeping your GTI for a while. But if you've got lots of neddies straining at your front wheels and you're hanging on to your car, I'd say it's a very underrated mod.

It's not quattro but it sure does help significantly.

I asked for prices from 3 respected workshops and they all came within £30 of each other. However, due to their experience, VWR were always going to get my job.

The list never seems to end, does it, Nathan.

Very true Robin, but I think were ALL gulity of helping to relieve each other of our cash when we come on here and tell how good our latest investment has made our GTI feel

The plan is to keep the car Robin, as long as the next 'whim' that comes along doesn't mean I have to sell her

The anti lift kit really helps with traction i dont know how much it will help you with something like 55 % more power than mine. But i struggle to get the traction light on now when exiting bends no question a great mod for the money.  :driver:

Robin I think going to blame you for my next desired mod (after the Milltek), as the after the trip out in APS ED30 I now think some coilovers and the anti-lift kit are next on the list, the considering how low there's is sat and with Ed saying they where on a firm setting I was very impress with the ride

Steve - I think Ed has KW coilovers on.

TC - Good to hear you are still pleased with the AntiLift kit - Good to have user feedback. Mine will be going on with my KW's (when I get a workshop slot with VWR - Might be before Christmas).

Nathan - So true! Without each other we probably wouldn't be modding at all. On the other hand we would probably be making some (even more) expensive mistakes without each other's help.
