Hi guys, anyone have any info on running etka on Windows 7?
Ive got it on my lappy with XP, but since i installed windows 7 on my desktop nearly a year ago, i havent had Etka.
Now, installing Etka is bad enough on XP, but i wondered if anyone has it working on 7?
theres so many friggin hoops to jump thru if you want to run it on 7! hardlock etc...argh!!
PM if you prefer :innocent:

If it's a 64-bit version of Windows 7 you have then you're plum out of luck as the driver model doesn't allow 32-bit drivers (such as the Hardlock driver) to be installed. If it's 32-bit it might install (the driver model from Window XP is very different to the one from Vista/7 but sometimes XP drivers still install) but it might be quirky...
The easiest thing to do is use XP Mode, but sadly that's only an option if you have a Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate edition of Windows 7. If on the other hand you only have Home Premium you can Download this from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2b6d5c18-1441-47ea-8309-2545b08e11dd) which (I believe) will allow you to create and run virtual machines (but not XP Mode since that is in effect a free copy of XP) -- then all you will need is a valid license for Windows XP (note that if you upgraded from XP to Windows 7 you no longer have a "valid" XP license) and you can install it on a virtual machine and run whatever legacy software you want on it... easy  :happy2:

i have windows 7 ultimate.
Will i need to run all the emulator and hardlock stuff as XP compatable?
thing is, the install opens some of these up for you

In your start menu, if you type "XP" in to the search box at the bottom it should show an item called "Windows XP Mode" -- you need to run that, which will probably ask to download some data -- if you let it do it's thing (it may take some time as it's downloading a Windows XP image) it should basically start a copy of XP in a window. From there you can install pretty much anything you want as it's a full-featured copy of Windows XP, it's just running inside your Windows 7.

ahhhhhhhhh ill have a try! ;0

Working fine on new Windows 7 lappy :happy2:

thank f00k for that! there is some hope then!
Im just installing XP mode now.
I would have done it sooner, but involved me going into the BIOS and changing a setting.
I hardly ever shut my machine down, so ive put off going into the bios! lazy i know! :signLOL:

Only point to note is one of the EPC (The Skoka one on mine) will no longer update and throws an error since moving it to Windows 7, but I am not 100% sure it's related.
-
I have it running on Windows 7 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro through VMWare and it all works fine

If you want a free copy of ETKA, you can download it from the My Touareg forum.

-
Run through this... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
-
wot bit do i need 2 download lol
-
Step 2 - download and install
Step 3 - download and install
Step 4 - download and install (unless you have Win7 SP1 installed, then you can skip this bit)
Once done you will have a new program group called 'Windows Virtual PC', manage the virtual machines in here
-
I done all that already but still says my system won't run in XP mode :stupid:
I think its because I'm running Win7 Home edition

Indeed it is - you need Pro at least for Xp Mode.
