Title: Gearbox seal
Post by: WYTHIT on May 17, 2010, 04:00:00 pm
Hi guys
Ive got a very small leak on the side of my gearbox its a round circle shaped rubber and its seeping a tiny amount of gearbox oil.
I noticed it when i was cleaning my wheels yesterday my front drivers side.
Has anybody had the same problem?its a manual 6 speed and there hasnt been any signs of gearbox noises burning smells or oil marks on my drive

Gearbox bearing seal
seal removed and  bearing is shot but i had no tell tale signs prior to finding the fault.
The mechanic from tameside transmissions has shown me the faults before he starts the work £600 to sort it out  the gearbox has to come out:surprised:
My car has only got 24000 miles on the clock and its been well looked after ive never crunched gears or hammered it.
I got in touch with vw to see if i was covered but because its a 54 plate they didnt want to know there answer was a discount at one of there garages. the reason i went for manual was because of the horror storys of dsg boxes on early gtis.
