Title: Heeeeelp pls. Monza Valves Don't fit!!!!!
Post by: nc35 on May 20, 2010, 08:50:45 am
Hi All
Having a nightmare with the new rims.
Tyre fitters can't get valves to fit and Bradford VW are not being helpful.
They don't know of different valves for monza rims!!!

Anyone know the VW part number so I can give them a call?

Cheers

Is this for the metal oem valve for the specific 18" monza rim?

If it is then the part number is  1K0601361

If you order it from your VW dealer and they don't have stock, they can usually get them from VW central warehouse for the next day.

What part number do to see on the inner side of the rim?

Sorry for the long delay.
Rims are with the tyre fitters who are still waiting for some valves.
So I can't tell what the part number is.
TPS are having difficulty getting the valves too.

Getting a little fed up now. Anyone got a suggestion for alternatives?

Cheers.

Lee

Showing 1 in stock :-(
great guys, they can't even confirm the stock item.
Bradford VW came up trumps putting me in touch with TPS.
They promised delivery on Friday, but still don't have stock.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring better news.

Never done this before, just amended the title (Mods. Hope this is ok)

Well the valves have arrived at the tyre fitters from TPS.
They don't fit :-(
fitter says the valve fits through bit the external bolt won't tighten down.

Don't know what to do now. Perhaps the fitter is a bit of a muppet.

Any help please????

Are these genuine monzas?
Title: Re: Heeeeelp pls. Monza Valves Don't fit!!!!!
Post by: nc35 on May 25, 2010, 02:19:07 pm
Yep genuine BBS - all the rims have the "BBS Raised" Lip for the valves and correct part numbers etc.

Starting to think the fitter is a muppet, rather than the rims & valves being at fault.

Have you sorted this yet as I may have a spare set of valves for the Monza rim?

Right mate if this helps I should have a full set of Monza valves in just a few days. They need one hell of a clean from what I can remember but they fit perfectly.  :happy2:

Let me know if your still struggling.

Boothy.

Your in Leeds right? The valves should be here on Thursday so if they'll help you your welcome to them but be aware they need scrubbing up but they definitely fit as they came off my BBS Monza 2's about a month back. I'm in Ossett just off the M1 so just let me know if you need em bud.

I remember this from a previous thread, hopefully might help you  :happy2:

There seems to be a bit of confusion about where to locate the sealing ring

Yep, RR is right, ETKA is the parts database they use..

The picture was scanned from ELSAwin which is the workshop software actually used in the main dealers. It details step by step guides and procedures on servicing and repairs from changing a bulb to replacing the clutches in a DSG gearbox..

One note on that diagram, it seems to show Seal 5 going between Part 6 and the wheel when in fact it goes between part 4 and the wheel as there is already a seal fitted to part six, I noticed this as I was taking the old ones , that were factory fitted, off. Here is a picture of an old one. The part Number is 1K0601361

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthewindinglane.co.uk%2Fimages%2Fmisc%2FvalvePic.JPG&hash=22ad9843a0fbc2019fef18faefcf4ce1dd3b908d)

I have to say though the seals look fine after 15000 miles so maybe it is being a bit over cautious and VW are taking the p***

I fitted mine, as they came off, (as per the factory 'assembled ' ones) as it makes more sense to have the O-ring forming an air seal against the outer surface of the wheel rim imo .....

I'm pretty sure this changed on later Monza II's and that OEM wheels after 2007 came with normal black plastic valves.

2005-2007 - 1K0 601 025 AH
2008 - 1K0 601 025 BA
2009 - 1K0 601 025 AM

The only differences are as to what tyre valve is fitted:

1K0601025AM16Z - Metal Valve
Valve Part Number: 1K0601361B

1K0601025BA16Z - Rubber Valve
Standard tyre valve

I will get the part numbers off the rims tomorrow. Sure they are all the same but will double check.

Can't believe there are different valves for different rims.

Sorry for dragging this thread up.. but i just purchased a GTi, and noticed one of the alloys uses these metal valves. So if i ever need to get tyre changed do i need to go to VW to buy these valves first? as it seems people are having problems getting these replaced at your normal tyre fitters??

Yes but only if they need to be replaced and at nearly £50 for a set I'd check first. Its the little rubber seals that apparently go however after 60k mine were still fine.

Yes - chuffing nightmare....

don't be shocked if stealers don't have them in stock either, will have to be ordered in.

Think they have changed from BBS to Ronal rims - if you have Ronal I don't think you will have any of these issues.  Most standard valves fit.

Good luck.

Thanks for the prompt replies.. what a bummer..!! £50 for a set..!! Do these valves need changing everytime you change tyre, like the rubber ones.?!!!
Title: Re: Heeeeelp pls. Monza Valves Don't fit!!!!!
Post by: nc35 on May 24, 2011, 10:47:32 am
No - that is the only benefit....

6 - 7 tyre changes and you break even.  Depending upon how much your fitter charges (some don't charge) and if the seals on the metal valves stay intact...

But this doesn't take into account that they look really good, but better than boring rubber valves.

Watch out for the metal valve caps.  Little scroats will whip them before you get home

I think its only on the 18" you need to replace the whole valve?  On my 17" monza's it has the metal valve but they've been able to re-core it or something everytime it needs new rubber.

hhmmm..?? i do have 18s.. ok can anyone clarify please...  :sad1:
If they can be re-used i assume i have to tell the tyre fitters as i assume they always quote for new valves and throw old ones away.!!

Yes you can re use.

If the valve itself fails - the center valve core can be replaced.

Sat looking at a couple on my desk now...  Really sad the amount of cr@p on my desk.

OK that sounds betta. thanks all. S'pose main thing is to let the tyre fitters know so they dont throw it.! Maybe i should able to save a bit as most of them charge a bit more for valves.. :happy2:

My fitter didn't want to even touch my metal valves...   :scared:

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I've had my wheels refurb'd to try and cure leaks and it's made them even worse!  :congrats:

The o-ring as mentioned earlier in this thread has conflicting advice, the elsawin diagram tends to suggest the o-ring [#5 on the diagram, link below]  is fitted on the inside of the wheel but another chap on this thread says that that is wrong and it should go on the outside, as the metal stem [#6] already has a rubber seal bonded to it. [Which sounds like it makes sense]. But I'm beginning to think that the elsawin diagram is actually correct as my wheels have come back with o-ring fitted outside and the pressure loss is much greater. It's counter-intuitive to say the least! So, this is where you chaps/ladies with hollow type BBS Monza 2's come in, could you all have a look and tell me if your orange o-ring [oo-er] is visible between the metal washer and the body of the wheel itself? @RedRobin (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13)  I believe you have Monza 2s of the type I'm on about?

When I recently dismantled the valves on mine there wasn't an o ring in the inside of the wheel just the seal that seems to be part of the stem. The outside part that screws onto it had a seal at the bottom of it which again seemed to be part of it so that the wheel is sandwiched between two rubber seals. There definitely wasn't a loose o ring, just the seals that seemed to be part of the assembly. I can't see why there'd need to be an extra o ring.

....I have been riding on OZ Aleggerita alloys for 8 years and don't remember anything about the valves, especially as ATS did and still do all my tyre fitting. Sorry I can't help.

Is it possible to replace just the O ring or is it an integral part of the valve ?
I've reused mine even after a wheel refrub but guess they won't last forever.
