I see theres threads for F1 and recently a BTCC thread but i just wondered if anyone was a Moto GP fan? I missed most of last weeks but im ready and waiting for le mans :popcornsoda:
was almost tempted last year to get either a lorenzo 99 sticker or a rossi 46 for the rear windscreen...bottled it tho :scared:
-
I watch other motorsport but MotoGP is the only REALLY exciting thing left :happy2:
-
Yeah i think your right, i enjoyed the monaco F1 but when you've got guys rear wheel drifting a GP bike and over taking at 50degree angles its just crazy!
-
jesus! i thought the two repsol hondas were gona take eachother out! pedrosa and dobi!
-
only motorsport i have ever watched since the scwantz rainey days, had a lorenzo around the outside on one car and 46 for vale on another, never miss it. one word..... not worthy
-
Big Moto GP fan over here too. Can't wait to go to Silverstone in a few weeks, anyone else going?!
Just got back from the British Superbikes at Cadwell Park today, 4 hours and 208 miles to get homw but was well worth it! 29 degrees and not a cloud in the sky all day (very sunburned now)! Sat at the bottom of the Mountain and watching Josh Brookes jump over it was absolutly amazing :jumping:!!!
Matt
-
cadwells like 20mins from my house (not to annoy with the big journey!) but today must have been hot! Iv always watched GP and went a few years ago to donnington and loved it. Le Mans was pretty cool today but its kind of a shame rossi never got going against lorenzo! But if you were at cadwell you wudnt have seen it :signLOL:
As for wraps and 46 stickers :notworthy: kudos!
-
It was unbelievably hot, sunburn hurts!
Yeah I missed them but thanks to Sky+, my night tonight consists of 125cc's, Moto 2 and the Moto GP :drinking:
Matt
-
haha god bless sky+ what did you think? sorry if i spoiled it abit before ud seen it!! :sad1:
-
Still aint seen it yet, spent all night washing my bike thats up for sale, had a few calls about it so had to be done!
It'll get watched tomorrow night now (P.S, don't worry, you aint spoiled it yet :happy2:)
Matt
-
thats alright then. theres me chirping on! its worth the watch as always! sounds fun, what you selling? is it your only bike your gettin shot of?
-
I sold my Kawasaki KXF250 last week and got my Honda RVF400 up for sale to make way for a Yamaha R6 which i'm picking up on wednesday :jumping:!!
Anyone else got any bikes at all?!
Matt
-
I am looking at getting one Matt. :pomppomp:
I have been looking at the Suzuki GSXR 600 and the Kawasaki ER6F:

Surprisingly the Suzuki is £200 cheaper on insurance but about 1k more!
Any long time bikers have any experience with these two? best one?
Cheers :happy2:
-
Oh and sorry for the thread jack! :ashamed:
-
No bother at all Ollie :happy2:
It all depends what you want, the ER6F is designed to be a bit more comfortable for longer journeys where as the GSXR is a supersport bike based on race bikes. For performance, the GSXR would wee wee all over the ER6 any day of the week but if your going to be doing a lot of miles going at a steadier pace, the ER6 would be the one to go for. Most of the bike training schools use ER5's and ER6's as learner bike because they're nice and easy to ride e.t.c. Not quite sure how the ER6 would be more expensive to insure for a 1st time rider either ?!?!
For me, it would 110% be GSXR all the way
P.S, I've posted in your other thread about the bike i'm selling if your interested?!
Matt
-
Cheers matt, it wont be a daily drive. Just a weekend toy to go out with my friends etc. When I told my mate who has an ER6F the insurance quote for the GXSR he couldn't believe it either!
Just to prove I am not mad!
I will have a look at the other thread!
I have been advised to go on an intensive course for 5 days to pass my restricted test. Would this be a wise way to go? (I did this with my car)
Cheers :happy2:
-
Oh and I have just been informed bikers usually get tpft rather than fc. The Suzuki is £500 if that is the case. :pomppomp:
-
Go with the GSXR then if its for weekend fun!
Can't believe the insurance, I live in the middle of nowhere, have 3 years no claims and 4 years on road experience and my R6 is costing me £400 tpft :fighting:
I would advise fully comp if you can afford it, it's quite easy to lose the front end e.t.c and a small slide can turn into big £££££

Excellent cheers Matt. :happy2:
Nobody can understand the insurance!
-
why do folks only go tpft? cos if u smash em its curtains for the bike? or costs more to repair than value? oh and as for the hijack...il let it slip, aslong as bikes are discussed ha :signLOL:
-
why do folks only go tpft?
Because I aint won the Euromillions yet
In all fairness, I've only been Fully Comp for a year now and am looking at having to go back to TPFT for a year on the new bike due to the costs and my lack of £££ at the minute!
Matt

haha i see, well when you do win it wana throw some my way? :signLOL:
my old man had a cbr600ff (think ff or maybe rr  ) and then a blade but jacked the blade for an elise...i put it down to him gettin old!
-
Just booked my theory and have a course in June! :pomppomp:
Matt do you know any good supplies for protective gear online? :happy2:
-

Good news Ollie :happy2:
There's plenty out there but to be honest, go to a shop and try it on first. It's crucial to get the right size for biking equipment, you've got to be comfy but properly protected with correct fitting gear. Once you've tried it on and know what size your after, go looking on the internet to get the cheapest prices.
Where you based and i'll have a ratch about for any decent local places?! Bound to be a Hein Gerike near you, thats a good place to start. Also all your local dealers will have a selection of clothing for you to find the right sizes.

Cheers Matt :happy2: (again!)
Im exited haha! :pomppomp:
One last question what other bikes would you suggest if any to this list of possible ones for me: (im looking for a 2008 > with a couple of 1000 miles on really):
Kawasaki ER6F
Kawasaki ER6N
Suzuki SV 650
Suzuki GSXR 600
Yamaha XJ6
I want to research all possibilities to get the best for me, instead of jumping in! (Oh and this is the last question!)
Cheers

It entirely depends on what you want the bike for. The ER6's and SV's are great bikes for starting out on but I think you would soon get bored of them, especially if your mates ride sports bikes. For a weekend toy round the twistes, it's got to be a GSXR, R6, ZX6R, CBR600RR e.t.c
I'm only 20 so i'm still into the sports bikes, older people may have different views. I'm picking up my R6 tomorrow :jumping:
Oh and don't worry about the questions, i'm bike mad and in my element here so fire away :happy2:

do it...it makes sense! better than any jap crotch rocket...
oh but seriously? id go for the gsxr :stupid:
-
The gsxr looks the dogs dangles but is it to much for a first bike? Would I be better of with more of a starting bike (Kawasaki)?
-
600's are very good place to start, my old man had a 600 and loved it, that was his first bike after passing his test, he wishes he'd kept it longer before getting the blade and scaring himself silly on it. cbr600 fr i think he had and he said it was just so much fun, easy to ride, forgiving and still f f f f...fuuur...fast
-
I've ridden bikes for about 10 years. Just a quick note on your insurance quote you posted Matt. The reason the Suzuki was
cheaper is because you put in GSR and not GSXR so it makes sense that the GSR is cheaper. Its a sports-tourer and not a fully
fledged GSXR. Just check that over again.
My first bike that i learnt on was an RVF 400. A sports bike but with a slightly smaller engine and very easy to handle. I then moved onto a Honda VTR Firestorm, which is a 1000cc V-twin but classed as a sports-tourer. Cracking bike with a great engine.
I wanted something a little more track focussed so i then bought the Kwak ZX6R. A 2006 model. It was the best thing i ever owned
for a track. The ride on the road is a little too firm.
Bear in mind it took me a good 5 years to be be able to be the boss of a bike like that meaning i don't advise you learn on the modern day 600's. Im still only young(ish) at 27 so i'm not the old fart telling you not to get a sports bike. Just bear in mind that the way they are made today, they can far out do anything your capable of and more than one time i've heard/seen mates and people who go straight for the sports bike when they dont know how to ride!!!
The SV650 is a great first bike with plenty of punch and a nice sounding v twin grunt. That would be my choice!
Cheers
Craig
-
Sorry it wasnt Matt who posted the insurance quote! (ed)
-
Id go GSXR :happy2:
IF you can restrain yourself and be sensible learning the bike then Id go 600 sports bike, just be careful.
I passed my direct access in a month then jumped on a CBR 600RR5 , everyone said I be dead in a month  but thankfully I took my time and rode it in all weathers, if you respect it and the conditions youll be fine.
I didnt find it any harder than the 600F I did my test on, but then I didnt really fully push the bike for a long time lol
(I got an experienced friend of mine to cane it so that is was ran in properly :signLOL:)
Takes its toll on your back/shoulders and wrists so if you have any issues there Id stay away from a sportsbike.....
I remember nearly dropping it outside the dealers :signLOL:

Yes mate I noticed that yesterday. I used a registration of bike trader so maybe the bike is a bit dodgy! I tried another reg of a gsxr and they wouldn't quote, so that explains the confusing insurance quote. Its a shame as I would have loved one! :sad1:

As above I cant get insurance on a GSXR (I really do hate insurance! No GTI, No GSXR!!!! :fighting:) I have just been with a friend on his ER6F and its a nice bike, I may be looking at that or the Suzuki under the GSXR (cant remember the name)
Like this:

Sure I can't tempt you with my RVF, little bit of forum discount :signLOL:
I must have overlooked that insurance quote, the GSR600 is nothing like a GSXR600 although their names are basically the same.
Personally, i think a supersport 600 will be a big bike to start on (i'm 20 and have been riding since I was 6 years old and i've just got a 600 today). Something like an SV or an ER6 (I thought your mates had sports bikes in which case you might struggle to keep up on one of these) would be better but if you prefer the sports bike style then an RVF/VFR would be ideal. I wouldn't disregard them because there 200cc less, they can more than make up for it in the corners! They're insurance friendly for beginners too :happy2:
Matt

Just done a little research and the bike is called the GSX650F. Looks quite nice I think:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fzz259%2Follie288%2FGSX650R.jpg&hash=8663c3bc624d21b38178ea0cc1ada9046eb00b37)
What would be the main differences between the Kawasaki ER6F and the Suzuki if any? :happy2:

It looks a nice bike but I am looking for something a little newer tbh. Im sure you will have no probs selling it! Do you mean to big in power or to big in size?
-
No bother, yeah i've had plenty of interest in it so far.
Big as in power, I know people who have had a GSXR as their 1st bike and have been fine, another lad I know fell off on his 1st outing. It all depends how much you can limit yourself. Group riding isn't much good when you start out either, you tend to end up pushing harder and harder to keep up which can get quite dangerous for a beginner.
I don't think there would be much difference between the Suzuki and Kawasaki to be honest. Go and have a sit on them and test ride a couple when you get your license. Both nice bikes if you into that style of things but I would tend to go for the Kawasaki, lot more popular (most of the training schools use them or ER5's, must be pretty reliable and be able to take a bit of stick with learners on them all day)
Matt
-
I agree with Matt, the Kawasaki would take my vote also. Both are similar bikes. They are competing for the same commuter title as is
the Honda CBF600 or CBF600SA.
Group riding with all your buddies on supersports will only make you want to keep up - not a good way to start. I'm not trying to burst your bubble - just want to see you riding for longer :)
Enjoy in whatever you choose!!
Cheers

I understand what you are saying. What ever bike I get I will not be riding fast until I understand the bike, the way it reacts and the limits. I know that a 5 day course is not going to give me nearly enough riding experience. Like you said it is all self control I suppose.
Cheers for the advice! :happy2:

If you want to know anything else just shout up, can't beat a crack about the bikes!

Have fun fella - you'll love it!

I've has bikes since I was 12 and passed my bike test before my car test at 17, I've done the usual Jap sports bikes RGV250,NC30,ZX6R,GSXR's and currently have a Ducati 900 Monster with some mild modding, brakes, suspension, exhausts etc and its a right grin if not a little loud it, sets car alarms off
My advice would be take it steady to start with and get somethin on the sensible side, the modern 600 sports bikes are mental fast really 110ish bhp and 170ish kgs and 170mph isn't really novice tackle, fcuk me I sound old, sayin that if I was 20 again I would be probably be goin out and buyin the fastest thing I could afford, in fact thats exactly what I did
-
ha ha just viewed my own thread and look whats in the background :sad1:, it was a lovely car

monster and ed30 look mint! :popcornsoda:
like the s3? im aiming to get one next year!

the ED30 was mint pal, APR fuel pump code and pump, full Milltek, Eibach coilovers, ARB's etc unfortunately managed to write it off, but from what I can gather it still lives, in fact I've had a letter from the law regarding it this week

Haha yes I have to decide between: Kawasaki ER6F, Suzuki GSX650F, Suzuki SV650 and Yamaha XJ6F. It seems I have a lot of reviews to read and dealers to visit! :pomppomp:
It will have to be restricted for two years so it wont be as quick, and all of the above are deemed good starter bikes apparently. :jumpmove:
-
hahaha oh dear...what did the law want with it? aaah i had that with my first car i wrote off, annoys me abit rly i loved my first car n it got written off and repaired and sold to someone in brum who even wrote asking for the spare key! grrr
looks lovely. i havnt studied your s3 thread yet but i will...i was looking at hpfp's on awesome (with next year in mind) i hadnt appreciated how much they are, apr fuel pumps £625! :scared:
-
lookin at that list, they are all the type of thing I would suggest, my choice would be the SV650 its a cracking bike closely followed by the ER6F :happy2:

you got a step to get on that Gaz?
ED30 looks mint, cant believe its so long ago :notworthy:

Does anyone have any opinions on the Yamaha Fazer FZ6 S2? I would have the fully faired version as here:
-
I've never rode one but look like a decent bike, seem to be more designed for long distance an touring though, not sunday afternoon jaunts.
What about a Honda Hornet / Suzuki Bandit aswell?!
Matt

Yeah sports tourer again, for insurance. Apparently the engine is a detuned R6 engine. Although it sounds like a hair dryer on that clip! Sounds good with different cans though!
The fazer is based on the bandit I think.
Ill have a look! :happy2:

Passed my theory test Wednesday :pomppomp:
I went into a motorbike shop with a load of gear and tried on all different helmets and boots etc. I decided on the arai chaser, which is an ok price and very comfortable. Also getting alpinestars boots etc. Anyone know of any cheap online sites to look on for them now I have all my sizes? :happy2:
-
Well done mate! :congrats:
as for arai and Astars all i can say is VICTIM! haha nea will look smart!
-------------------------------
on another note the moto GP on saturday/sunday was abit good! Obviously the sad loss of valentino but it opened it up to lorenzo and pedrosa and i also caught moto2 for the first time! What a bunch of nutters!
