A five-month-old baby boy has been treated in hospital for 20% burns after spending one of the hottest days of the year on the beach, police have said.
The youngster had been on Brighton seafront on Sunday afternoon when he was spotted by Police Community Support Officers.
The officers intervened as temperatures at the East Sussex tourist spot reached 25C.
An ambulance was called for the baby and paramedics who attended the scene believed he was suffering from 20% burns to his body.
He was then taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said the boy had been visiting the south coast resort from London with his 29-year-old mother.
She also said that no arrests have been made.
But she told Sky News Online that the case had been passed to the Metropolitan Police as the mother lives in the capital.
The spokeswoman said Met officers would decide if there were any child protection issues in relation to the incident.
this kind of irresponsible parenting really boils my p1ss :fighting:
what would have happened if the officers hadnt spotted the baby and intervened?

Stupid cow!! :fighting:
Goes to show any dumb ass can have kids! :scared:
-
I read this earlier today , having a 14month old we always make he's protected and got his hat on when out in the garden - especially over the last few days - to not protect a younger child is just pure stupididity!
-
F**KING DISGUSTING it pains me reading antything like this happening to kids. i wouldntleave my 6 year old like that on the beach, let alone a 5 month old.
-
Just one word - NEGLECT
-
another thing is why would you even take a 5 year old to a beach in 25 degree heat. children of that age will not be able to regulate their body temp, and the baby would be hugely un-acclimatised to such heat. lets consider the average temp the last 5 months.
domT is bang on. NEGLECT

5 months old, not 5 years. Which makes it even worse. How can a 5 month old baby communicate the fact its burning.
Absolutely disgusting. Shouldnt be responsible for a child if you cant do something as simple as put on some factor 50 sunscreen to protect the poor babies vulnerable and unconditioned skin.

The very old and very young are very susceptible to extremes of temperature.
We don't know the whole/full story but does sound very neglectful.
-
you'd have thought at 29 aswell she'd have some sort of clue! neglect and stupidity!
poor kid!
-
obv dont know the full story, but just shows theres no common sense barrier to having children :fighting:
getting burnt at such a young age also has potentially serious implications for the youngster in later life, so its not something that just gets fixed now and goes away!
make my blood boil too

I try to keep my kids in the shade as much as possible when the sun is hot and out around midday. Either that or we carry sun cream in the wife's bag, and in the car etc, along with hats and sunglasses etc.
Cant be too careful in such heat.

Goes to show why democracy is bunk.
/she can vote, can't she?
There really should be some kind of intelligence/parenting test before people are allowed to have children...
-
Oh no horrible poor kid.
Bought my youngest Peppa Pig DVD boxset last weekend just to tempt her to stay in the house out of the sun.

Charlotte on Sky News had a go this morning because Eammon Holmes & Jon Gaunt said that she should have the child taken off her.
Her response was "you can't do that just because a baby has sun burn" :surprised: :surprised:
Er helllllooooooo it was burnt over 40% of his body and screaming his head off
