I noticed when cleaning mine yesterday, there's the ever so slight beginnings of the old white-worm. Just on the edge where the rim is turned, it appears to be bleeding under the lacquer.
The car is just over 2 years old, so I'm not worried about getting them swapped ASAP.. but how far do they have to have gone before VW will agree to swap them - Will they swap on a little corrosion, or will I have to run around with grotty wheels until they're bad enough to be deemed worthy of replacing?
-
it depends on the dealer.
white worm is white worm, no matter the quantity. its only going to get waaaay worse! you know how bad the problem was with the anni wheels! id get to the dealers now if i were you, they probably wont do anything on the first visit, but at least you are registering your concern.
You never know, they might hook you up.
England is just not the best place for bare metal + Lacquer alloys! :(
-
From what i have read over the months its a no quibble if they have not been near any curbs. I think though you would get the new Ronal ones, so i would check for a good match.
-
Aye, to be fair I just called Warrington last time with the anni and they just said as long as they're not curbed, bring them in and we'll swap 'em. That place is now sadly run by f***tards and I wouldn't trust them with a Matchbox car.
Anyone know a decent dealers in Cheshire/Manchester?
-
gilbert lawton seemed to be ok when i was there last year
-
Cool, I'll try GL.
TC, what's this Ronals lark - don't BBS make them any more and what's the difference?

Haha i was just going to ask you. I have heard that there is one near Haydock with a good reputation but most people will say a dealer is excellent if they make it out unscathed so its a bit of a lottery where ever you go. :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

No BBS haven't made them for a while now, according to reports its nothing to do with the white worm, they probably got a better deal.
The quality is just as good and there is only a very slight difference in design. I will see if i can dig out the thread from tyre smoke.
-
Just tried Crewe and they seemed perfectly ok about it, I'm not letting them do it unless I get all 4 changed though... then they'll be covered in wax, boxed and safely tucked up in the loft
-
Here is one.

I cant find the Ronal thread :happy2:
-
Cheers, I've got a rough idea so I'm just going to push for all 4 to be replaced to ensure no mis-matches.
Wonder what they'll try and beg me to buy whilst I'm hanging around?

When i first read about the Ronals i came across it because a number of people where going into the dealers with only one wheel showing signs of the worm, but the dealers where saying dont worry we will replace all four. I found this unusual and my suspicious mind was telling me that there must have been a noticeable difference in the BBS and Ronals but apparently not.
So i would defo go for all 4.

Probably there house, as their recent commission payments will mean repossession.
-
I had all 4 replaced about 2 months before the 3 warranty expired. I had been down previously to make them awaire of the problem and said i would be back when possiblem to do the swap (i waited till the last min!!)
From memory in cannot see any real difference to the face of the wheels but i think the rear part (where the weights are stuck) is slightly lower and hides the weights.
I even tried to get the Detriot's as replacements but they wernt having none of it
-
Detroits would be lush, I wonder.....?
They've just called back again and want me to go in for a chat on Saturday morning - hopefully they won't give me that look when they see its mods.
-
haha! i hate that look!
are detroits the black monzas?
-
Aye, the black ones with a polished/cut rim

I was told (not sure myself) that the Ronals were hollow and as such a lot lighter than the BBS?
-
:happy2: for Gilbert Lawton so far, I live nearer to other dealers but chose to go there for the car.....
-
bbs are hollow right?
-
Both companies produce the hollow Monza II

Which one there is a few
-
I'll weight them both, so we know.
-
When I was last at A1 wheels he said a guy brought in some he'd sourced from fleabay and the Ronal's were lighter than the BBS?

wigan always sorts me out :)
when my driveshaft went they blamed my alloys but still put it through warrenty
-
I've used Wigan a few times too, pretty good, found Hyde very good too
-
What sort of miles are you getting with the monza 11s when you are starting to notice the white worm. I know a few of you are getting them replaced just a little over 2 years old :happy2:
-
26k and 27 months old.
-
26k and 27 months old.
cheers tony :happy2: Mine is now 27 months old now but only 17k. Will keep me eye on them
-
They've been laced in wheel wax from day one too, it's just a matter of when..
-
bbs are hollow right?
....Yes, BBS invented the hollow technology I believe.
-

how do you find cleaning them? obviously you wont be using wheel cleaner etc
-
Oh god no! They've never had wheel cleaner near them, just car wash.
-
ive used a heap of wheel wax, rim wax, PB wheel sealant, collinite etc but never been pleased with how they come up with just shampooing! i think in the next few years, something will come along thats bulletproof for alloys, its just that there an area that gets some much hammer. Gtecnik will probably be the ones to come along with a polymer based heat resistant thingamajig hopefully!
