Title: Which downpipe?
Post by: vRS_Pagey on May 25, 2010, 08:52:37 pm
I'm after a DP with decat for my mk2 Octy vRS, as far as I'm aware the tfsi engine in mine is the same in the mk5 gti, leon fr and A3 2.0t, and the same as the K04 equivilents, ED30, Cupra etc. So, would the DP's be the same across those models?

Apology's for my ignorance
Lee.

This is one I was looking at, but when I contacted the seller he said it would only fit the car listed! Did you have to get a seperate adapter for yours to reduce it down to fit the original system.  Spoken to Blueflame, £212 iirc, 50 quid for the adapter + £15 postage.

i have a milly cat back so it fitted it to that, i had to chop a bit off of the decat to make it the correct length but it was only 160 so i didnt care about chopping it, well chuffed with it...

spend anothe £100 if you want to get a brand name part that no-one will ever see, at least you know it will be the correct one and need no cutting i suppose.

I can't see why the pipe for the mk5 GTi wouldn't fit a vRS, the link I added for the Blueflame lists a range of VAG cars with the same model no for the DP, if anything I would of thought the cat back pipe would differ between models.
Out of interest has the de-cat added a lot more noise? Is the place where the cat should be is replaced with a silencer?
Lee.

yeah mate it is a small silencer where the cat would normally be...  as for noise i think it is slightly quieter at cruise but got a bit more depth to the noise when you put the hammer down.

I agree i think all the downpipes would be the same for the mk5 platform with differant cat backs.

I think I am going for the Blueflame just for piece of mind, although the ebay one is cheaper after several messages to the seller I've concluded they don't really no squat about the product they're selling.
Now to overcome the moral dilemma...........   :ashamed:

...................dilemma overcome  :innocent:
One question to the masses, will the decat activate a CEL like the sport cat DP's? and is it a simple case of mapping the back O2 sensor out?

mine never came on when i put the decat onbut as you say it maybe had already been mapped out,  any mapping company can de-activate the sensor for a decat

Sorry to bring the thread from the dead but i am serously considering a 3" downpipe decat i have seen on ebay. It is how ever listed for a mk5 GTI but i own a skoda octacvia vrs. So does anyone know if the golf mk5 gti downpipe decat will fit my VRS?

Looking at the two I would say yes as they both use the same standard downpipe. Personally I would get one custom made to same diameter as the milltek. 3inch DP are good at flowing high end but they can lose low end torque on the K03.  AWE use 2.5inch pipe as it retains the same low end torque as the OE DP without losing too much top end power.  The general consensus is that a 2.5inch exhaust is good up to about 350bhp, dependant on application and turbo size.  Over that and you do need a 2.75 to 3inch exhaust but bare in mind that the K03 is not a large turbo by any means.  Id stay with a 2.5 to 2.75 inch DP.  I would only go 3 inch if I was going to a K04, which for me is on the cards

I agree with 56OctyVRS. A couple of years ago I actually installed a 3 inch Milltek DP on my k03 gti mating to the oem catback.
The theory was get more top end knowing I could afford to lose a little bottom end. I was stage 2 at the time. I did get a bit more top end but lost a lot of low to mid so I totally believe the 3 inch is to big for the k03. Needless to say it came straight off.

Kool so do you guys think i should just get 3" dp into a 2.75" pipe and sports cat?

You should a get a 2.5 or 2.75inch DP into a sport cat.  You will get good peak gains but also retain the low end torque.
