Title: Can Someone in Birmingham Plastic weld some rear LED clusters for me?????
Post by: bindinbear on May 25, 2010, 09:52:17 pm
Hi to all,  :happy2:

Considering some Left hooker rear LED light clusters for my 30 from fleabay but need to obviously swap the inner fog etc by plastic welding. Is there anyone in Birmingham or nearby locality that

A. Has the equipment necessary and skill to do it and

B. Is Prepared to do it for a fellow mk5 owner, for a small fee paid for your time, of course!

Yours hopefully
Bren

Hey Bren.
I just got a set today from Germany, don't reccomend e bay at the mo as prices are quite high, I paid 290 euros inc shipping.
I would also advise reading this thread, as this is what I plan to do at the weekend, don't have a dremmel, but got a glue gun, so will have a bash!

From what i've seen you could swap the lenses over by using a soldering iron to melt the plastic tabs off to swap them over and re melt them to hold them back.

I need to do mine but havent got around to it yet

I used the soldering iron method. The job may look a little unsightly and less neat vs glue gun/plastic welding when done but it's all hidden when on the car.

I used hot melt. Still hasn't failed after two years.

Its really easy to snip off the plastic tabs holding it together, and just a dab of the correct type of glue is enough to hold it back in place.

easy peasy.

saying that i managed to use superglue the second time i had them apart ,and have contaminated one of my lens.  :ashamed:
