Title: recommend a sat nav for under £100 for parents in law
Post by: john_o on May 28, 2010, 08:10:39 am
£100 is the target (or less) but will stretch if needs be.
Doesnt need to have any frills, just work reliably.

My experiences are

TomTom , good UI but expensive for what it is, customer support reports on web are woefull!
Garmin Nuevi (sp?) widescreen , nice UI but directions not the best.

I have done a web  search and the Navman units seem the cheaper end, good ish reports except the fact the maps are well out of date !

So lets hear it , what you got and is it any good?

thanks
John

I had a TomTom for years - never had any troubles with it.
I now have TomTom on my iPhone, again its been fine.
Dont think I'd buy anything else now.

Take a look at the TomTom XL.
You can also get a XXL, which has a larger 5" screen and maps on Europe.....

my mum uses a tom tom and she hates the thing and so i bought her a navman as the mrs has one and they both love them

widescreen, phone connection and all sorts. Theres nothing wrong with tom toms but from what ive personally experienced the navman is easier to use, very clear and nice simple instructions well ahead of time and easy to update

the back on track feature is brilliant too

Not had any issues as yet and there's some really out of the way places down here, might be different for people oop norf though as road layouts change all the time as building works happen?

I bought an Indago from a member on here because you got free speed traffic updates for life and doing my research it came highly reccomended.  :happy2:

......It's crap! Much prefer my tomtom. Some of the routes it has tried to take me are laughable! :scared:

thought Id update this.
after much searching I have now bought the Navman Mio M400 UK+ROI maps only
£79 from Tesco, but clubcard points back and quidco ability too
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-0634.aspx

funny that halfords only list the full europe one which is 20 quid more, and they have barely any stock. seems that although they list many sat navs they probably only 'want' to sell the main brands...

I will let you know what my father in law thinks of it it due course.

appreciate all the comments thanks  :happy2:

I have an old navigon, german make and tbh its really good for the price.  My bro has the top model and it does everything you need to.  Lane assist too whichis useful.
