so ive never bought one, but everyone swears by them, what are they then?
is this something that you put on the car after waxing? like a top coat?
-
When I have seen people use them they turn up at shows, spray the car and then set about scratching the paint to death with a microfibre. :fighting:
I have used it with clay before and I have seen detailers use it as an aid to drying.

thats when ive seen it before most, at shows with show n shiners using it instead of washing their rides, thats why i was wondering if it was more as part of the wash routine rather than a stand alone product as it were

I use Meg's quick/speed detailer to get rid of bird poo or similar marks or splashes, just to get rid of them quickly instead of allowing them to harden and eat the surface. I always carry some in the car.
I don't use it as a show 'n shine aid.

Er what Robin? Just my observation.
On some of the detailing threads I have seen they will spray the just washed wet car as I guess it breaks down the surface tension and makes drying easier.

so more of a spot cleaning agent then?

Its best use is as a drying aid. Since this is where damage can easily be caused it acts as a lube to make the wipe down process as smooth and quick as possible. It also seems to add a little something to the finish. It's also useful for wiping down watermarks which appear (wing mirrors :jumping:) after washing.
I cant help feel using it as a means to wipe dust away just means you are rubbing dirty water across the paint scratching it.
Its great for removing smears after waxing and finger prints if anyone is so rude.
And, if like me you have a shiny samsung lcd, it is superb for removing dust

cheers winrya, so does this stuff go on before or after waxing?
waterspots arent really an issue for me as the water where i live is crazy soft

....I was just surprised/confused to learn that such products are used for anything other than a quick spot cleaner. :happy2:

I use it to take off wax, makes it soooo much easier.

....Now I'm even more confused. Why would you take off wax? Or do you mean the residue?

Well whenever you dry the car so always after washing and before waxing. If you are using an oily wax you will often find a couple of hours after, you will see slight holograming in the paint and at this point qd is perfect to give a quick spray and wipe down to re enhance the finish
-
i use it mainly as a drying aid and to remove marks such as bird cack etc, i prefer to use the FK 425 poly wipe it leaves a really smooth feel to the paint :happy2:

depends on which quick detailer I use. I use meg's quik detailer with claying the car and also as a general wipedown. If I'm strugglin to buff wax, I'll use it. Also use it on polishin pads to stop them drying out.
With Poorboy's QD+, it's a lot more oily and I think it has liquid carnauba in it. Anyway, I use this to treat the door shuts etc once I've cleaned them. I find it too oily (and hence messy) to use on the bodywork.
If you have previously detailed the car and given it two coats of wax, then the next time you wash and dry the car, you can buff the wax with the quick detailer to improve the shine, since I believe most if not all have some amount of wax in them.

....Sounds like stuff girlies use.

^ Well the thread title does say a dummy guide!

A good detailing spray can prolong the life of your wax by forming another barrier or top it up, it can be used as spray and wipe.
Meg's Last touch is a good one. I like and will get slated for it Red Mist used properly its very good.
-
/\ why mate?
matsu

It was very popular on another site and then it went out of fashion all of a sudden.
-
I have red mist but not had a chance to use it yet. It is apparently difficult to work with but when worked properly, works well.

i saw you make the dodo guy work really hard for 30 minutes demo-ing that stuff to you, then just as he'd had enough you walked off and didnt buy it anyway
and now youve got some, quality
-
I agree with comments on red mist, dont know what the fuss is about on the "other" site, i have found it a bit tricky at times but over all achieved good results. Best beading from a QD by far.
I believe it is best to work red mist with a dodo wax for the best results.

I meant the residue, makes it a lot easier and there are no marks from the wax.

Hahaha. No it wasn't red mist that was lime prime lite. It's a prewax glaze and cleanser. I had bought some but found it didn't work well, dried quickly and left a mess. Turns out I was using far too much product. The amount I used for one panel should have been enough for the entire car! I walked off because I had already bought it.
Might get him to trial red mist though!

Ive used red mist for well over a year now and ive never had any problems with it  But to be honest i wouldnt really class it as a Quick Detailer :chicken: More of a quick waxer lol!
IMO a quick detailer is designed to be used inbetween washes as a waterless wash product for lightly dusted cars not dirty but only lightly dusted  for example in car showrooms and car shows, wash your car before you go then when you get there use a quick detailer to remove the dust you picked up on the way.
The main thing i use it for is after a wash i will dry the car then use quick detailer to remove any water marks or smears left over and like Robin i keep some in my car so if i pick up some bird crap i will use the quick detailer to remove it.
For a quick detailer you aint going to get much better than Megs last touch or megs quick detailer as with any detailing product there are numerous different types available but if your looking to see what all the fuss is about start with either of the above and see how you get on.
Like i said red mist is awsome stuff i use it inbetween waxing just to top up the protection and give a little extra gloss its also awsome to use on your wheels.
