Hi all,
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the VW emlem on the key fob?
The dealer tells me I need to order another key.
I think with a little creative imagination their must a way around this?
Cheers
Lee

I had a Wolfsburg one off e bay, Paid £5 for it, and after about 6 weeks the logo was all scratched off, Think the VW ones are better quality though.
-
You can order them from VW. Give me a sec and I will find p/n

Lee, I have had the same problem and the dealer also mentioned that I had to order a while new key. But then I realised it was coming from a blonde service desk lady.
P/N is here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1906.msg179306.html#msg179306 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1906.msg179306.html#msg179306)
I managed to get mine on warranty so cant honestly remember how much it was.

As mentioned earlier, just get one off ebay. Should only cost you a couple of quid. :happy2:

And risk the logo coming off two weeks down the line or it not fitting 100%. There are some stories of the eBay versions being a different shape and sticking out a little more.
-
ive had a few good ones of ebay but the last 2 i got were poor fitting and would nt fit properly at all, so id go genuine if i were you.
i think gen ones can be had off ebay tho, but are harder to come by
-
Well I changed mine (brought off ebay) when I first had my golf, and that was April 2008. Still on there now, good and strong!
I guess there will be different versions, pretty sure mine is made from metal though, as opposed to the sticker type things...
I do remember that the seller did state that they were genuine VW ones.
My boyfriend has replaced his aswell and again, no probs to date...
-
The genuine ones are made out of aluminium and DO NOT have a self-adhesive on the reverse. I just used a small amount of super glue.

I'm in the same boat - for the sake on a couple of quid, I'd much rather have a genuine one. Buy cheap, buy twice IMHO.
Can you replace the buttons seperately as well?

Can you replace the buttons seperately as well?
The fob actually detaches from the key section (the top section comes away from the bottom).
Leaving you with this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.muswellhill-locksmiths.co.uk%2Fimage%2Fkeys%2520picture%2FRemote%2520Controls%2FAKRM73_200x200.jpg&hash=dcc663116cb9b788fa2326ecb3bd49f19757162f)
But last time I looked these were circa £40-50 from VW and then you will need it coding to the car.
EDIT: To be fair, you might then be able to take apart this section even further leaving you with just the buttons. But I wouldn't really know to be honest.

Thanks, just the emblems for now I think...

Thanks for feed back. I will speak to my local dealer on Tuesday and getone ordered.
I can see it may be a bit fiddly tying to remove the old one without damaging and marking the key fob!? - Maybe I'll try heating with hot air gun or similar first.
-
Can get them from either VW or ebay
try part number 3B0 837 891, not sure but think 09Z is on the end of that too
-
Your dealer wants to charge for it? What the hell?
When my sticker fell off, the dealer replaced it whilst the car was being serviced. Having said that, I replaced it with a GTI emblem.
-
Get a mk6 Golf key badge, these have a polyester type cover over the painted bit and don't scratch :pomppomp:
And no, I don't have a part number I'm afraid.
-
3B0837891 09Z £2.50 between 05/07 to 06/08
3B0837891A 09Z £2.50 between 07/08 to 06/09
-
The new Mk6 ones feel a little cheap and nasty IMHO. I managed to buy 3 Genuine badges off fleabay for 3 squid.
Absolute bargain, not cheap nasty copies at all, but by the looks of things there are obviously cheap copies out there!!
Replaced both badges on my fobs and have one spare!
Removal is really easy, I used a hobby knife, but a small Stanley blade would do. :happy2:

3B0837891A 09Z £2.50 between 07/08 to 06/09
Is there any discernible difference?
-
Bump... Mr. Camel - can you shed any light? Off to VW today. Ta
-
No idea of the difference I'm afraid

Woah! 2 pages for a ickle badge.
Why not order both and when you pick them up just keep the correct one. These must be peanuts to buy. :happy2:

Big spender? You don't buy an R32 then quibble over £2.50 for a badge!
Picking up all my bits tomorrow morning.
-
tried changing mine today, totally fooked up the key!! :sad1: how do you get the old one off?

My approach will be to warm up the fob then use a sharp blade to lift the old one off.
-
let me know how you get on, I tried cutting, scrapping and even drilling  ended up making a ret mess, just stuck the new one over the abortion, it looks ok, but I think I will need a new fob! :ashamed:
