from what i gather the main reason you shouldn't run a stage 2 map on a car with a standard downpipe is that the engine gas temps will get to high.
So......

If i was to knock out the pre-cat right next to he turbo, im thinking the stage 2 map wil be fine, as there wont be that huge restriction as the red hot air leaves the turbo, and if i stick on the HPFP ill be able to go back to stage 2+ again. obviously it isn't going to flow as well as an aftermarket one will, but its surely going to be one hell of a lot better than standard.
the reason i ask this, is that since strippin all the mods off my car, i still have all the remaps i have had from sharkperformance on my handset so i can go straight back to stage 2 and 2+ easily

I ran Revo stage 2 on my Octy with the standard downpipe and exhaust for over a year with no problems.
The difference though in adding the Milltek was immense.
-
thanks ian mate. im thinking i might get three quarters of the gains by removing the Decat. that said i still have the VCDS lead here so i could get some logging done with stage 1 and 2.
-
well if you look at the volume gain on just removing the pre cat it is definetly going to run better with it removed, as you said yourself it wont be as good as an aftermarket one but im sure it will be fine

Guinea Pig Si!! I like it :congrats:

once i get my bonnet catch fixed and a bit of time on the weekend, il give it a go i think. or i might just take it into the garage and give him £30 to do it for me,
-
once i get my bonnet catch fixed..
....You got an opening/closing problem? It's a known issue on the Mk5 GTI - Winter corrosion on spring and the whole bonnet lock unit has to be replaced.
But.. it's a good excuse to fit AeroCatches
-
No worries.. Do ittttt
-
the bonnet release catch inside the car has sheared of its housing, rounding all the splines off. already been replaced under warrantee once. they are going to do it again though

Do you think this little mod will illuminate a CEL on the car?
-
doubt it, anyway stage 2 map would sort that
