Is there anyway of getting a spare key other than a main dealer?

get any spare VW key and get a locksmith to cut a copy key from a blank (£10-15) and fit it onto the key fob, then get someone vith VCDS to code the key for you.

What about the imobiliser chip???
Still going to need that coding by VW. Or someone with the new VAG Commander.

You need an SKC secret key code before you can program any keys via vag com

Just posting an update, i managed to get a blank key with new transponder from Ebay, I took it to the nearest auto locksmith to me, (margate) and he cut the blade but was unable to programme the chip, he did advise me prior to starting that this might be the case, as he had never done as new a car as mine (2007).
so i have a key to get into my car but need to goto VW to see if they will code it.

VW will code all your keys, together with the car for around £50/60 if you can persuade them.

Bit of a treck for you but won't Ben @ shark code keys?

He has the latest VAG Commander that I think reads the SKC....
