Title: My brakes just saved a life!!!!
Post by: joesgti on June 02, 2010, 06:45:00 pm
Coming home from the gym, and a young lad rides his bike right out infront of me with his nan, i was only about 10-15 mph on the inside (empty) lane, the right hand lane was stopped for the traffic lights and a BIG blue van at the front of the que, lights turned green as i was still moving, got to the lights and a small 4 year old lad was riding his bike across the the road infront of the van, i slam on and stop within about 2 meters (if that) swerve the the left of him and smak his bike!! the child fell off and landed about 2 foot from his bike with nothing but a grazed leg!

I called the ambulance and the police showed up aswell. breathalized me and went on their merry way.

to say i am shaken up is an understatemant, i feel sick! if i still had my old gti brakes then he would have been on my bonnet and into my windscreen!!  :surprised: :sad1:

thank god for that.  id hate to hit a kid in my car.  at least the kid is ok, you've justified the brakes, so last question how is the car, superficial damafge of a dent??

the cars OK, just a small scratch on the bumper, but it blends in with the stone chips!  :signLOL:

I never drive fast on residential roads, only motorway sprints and nurburg fun!

I had a very similar thing happen to me, Kid ran out from behind a van without looking and jumped over the bonnet :surprised: its a good job he had some momentum or his legs would of been no more. I was only going 20mph tops but by the time foot got to brake pedal he was past me, wouldnt of mattered how big the brakes were.

just a reminder for all parents, dont lead your children out into the road before you, forgot to mention the grandmother got a lecturing from the police about it.

Just goes to show that brake upgrades are a very wise decision, regardless of if you want to tune a car or not. Glad to hear it reduced the severity of the injuries and that you have a good ethos for town driving. :happy2:

Glad all is ok.

I have the same ethos as you on were to put my lead foot on. Town, residential roads etc is not the place for the very reason you highlight.

Good to see you had the presence of mind to steer away aswell. The number of people I see slam on and not taking avoiding action is ridiculous.

Glad I got my R32 Setup now.
