Title: New (ish) Candy White GTI owner says Hi....
Post by: GTISPEC on June 02, 2010, 10:45:25 pm
Hi Guys/Ladies,
Yes this is my first post, so i hope i'm doing it right.

Swapped my 2005 Mini Cooper for a 2007 Candy White Mk5 GTI in October 2009 .....and what a difference!!...

Ive had it for a good few months now, and so far nothing everything has been sound (apart from buying some extremely expensive engine oil from Haldfords)...Although not liking the couple of patches 'White worm'...which ive read alot about on this forum.

so far i havent done anything to the car itself, and i presume its still 'stock', ive been looking into Vehicle re-mapping/bhp upgrade etc, i dont know anyone who has done this and although the write ups reads well, i would like to get some opinions off people who have had it done, real benefits/downsides etc..a company near me is Black Code Vehicle re-mapping....

Also the 18 inch Monza's, as i said earlier are starting to white worm, ive been thinking about getting them refurbed, what are peoples thoughts on gettting them powder coated? Black or dark grey perhaps?, ive heard A1 in Wolverhampton is the place to go as its only a a few mile away from me.....

Anyway, i've yapped away long enough...here some pics (hope ive done it right!!)

Welcome chap!  :drinking:

Nigel's your man @ A1, he'll look after you and make your Monza's look better than new! If I were you I'd get him to finish the inserts in Gloss black!  :happy2:

Cheers Greenouse...

I presume u have to give Nigel a bell for a quote etc?? got to be talking £100 a alloy???....quick thought, if i did get them re done with black inserts etc, would they last long?...with the Diamond finish/standard finish etc?..or or would you recommend full poweder coating...i'm thinking black or Anthracite...cant quite picture it yet???

Any opinions on the Engine Re map???..Extra BHP to take it upto a ED30 spec etc??

Cheers Guys

a stage 1 remap would take you to 220/240 bhp

many options including revo, superchips and giac have all been used on the forum.

People say its like driving a different car. Driven sensibly you will get slightly better mpg.

Personally id go for a map when you can remove it, in case you need to go back to standard for warranty reasons

Tell them you've had it re-mapped or at least give them a bell to see how it will affect your premium.. :happy2:

Very nice car you got there.
I too am a Midlander, live in Wolverhampton, go to Cannock quite often, Sure to bump into you sooner or later.
Remaps apparently add about 10/15% to your insurance, its one of the things I want to do to my GTI, but have not got around to it yet. Trty Adrian Flux for a quote, as they are very good to modded car owners.
