Title: Screenwash dilution
Post by: stealthwolf on January 21, 2009, 01:16:54 pm
Ran out of screenwash this morn, just as I was about to set off on a 160mile motorway journey. Completely empty.
Stopped off at dealers and bought 3l of the stuff, and just poured it in. Didn't bother to check dilution ratios. There's probably only 2l in there now.

Anyway, looking in the manual, there's nothing on dilution ratios. But it does mention to heat the windscreen up first if using the screenwash in cold weather. Otherwise the windscreen freezes!

On the bottle, it shows a pic:

Is a 'drop' a litre of water?

I've been using neat until I saw the label and it said "concentrate"!!!

i took each drop to mean one part.

so -70 is neat

-40 2 parts washer fluid 1 part water

-35 half half

-16 1 part fluid one two parts water

no frost 1 part fluid 4 parts water

i normally use 500ml per tank.

thats enough really, it smells nice, melts ice in england, and gets thru road salt.

bear in mind VW will want you to buy loads of this stuff!

i think 1 part fluid 4 parts water is more than enough in england. thats 600ml in each tank of fluid. meaning out of a 3L bottle, you would get 6 full washer bottles

its is important that you use the vag or similar such as autoglym (my fav) as cheaper fluids will deteriorate and clog the jets on a golf, and if youve not used the right stuff the dealer wont cover it with a warrantly part

dont use the cheap stuff it damages your jets and can block them. use a vag product or something similar to the AG, a few extra pence for the correct stuff will benefit in the long run and works better on your screen too
