hi, dose any one know of any vw racing 4 pots for sale?
-
yes but they are sold now
-
pants, ive got some new 4pot brembos and cash if you know who has them, maybe they could be tempted?
-
They got to be a VWR kit? got some R8 Rear 4 pots which work very well might look at a Part Exchange as well.
PM N8KOW or Geordie56 for a pedal review, they also use the DB9 Ford GT40 Pad readily available.
Arguably better and 2/3rds the price of the Capar-who VWR stuff which isn't without its problems :booty:
If you're looking for something for show season quickly I've got some F40 fronts on Alcon rotors and some AP stuff.
Probably best to PM me

R8=OEM++
Could always put a VWR sticker on and charge you extra, just dont go anywhere near a track with em on.

I know you're a convert Matt but compared to AP or Brembo simply no breeding, Aston Martin also ditched em after problems theres no smoke without fire.
AP= 655 GP wins and a clean sweep of the top ten at Istanbul, why risk unproven products at a premium price
-
Scene monkey. You buy brakes to use them, not to score points..
-
^^^^
I didn't realise you were such an AP fan, Dave. I must say that I'm still extremely pleased with mine - Very smooth but very effective braking with good pedal feel.
-
I had AP 4 pots on my Ibiza....to replace the cheese graters that were Tarox G88s that a mate set on fire at Alconbury lol
the APs never failed me on track days thats for sure!
-
im selling some vw racing 4 pots
-
Not necessarily a big fan RR just would want to get a guaranteed cast iron product for my £1800 quid and I think AP represent the best chance of getting that if I decided to deploy that sort of wonga into some brakes.
-
im selling some vw racing 4 pots
how much do you wont for them ?please give me first dibs on them, ive tryed to pm you but no joy
-
Alcon FTW.
For anything to have stood up to the sustained abuse I have given mine and never, not ever fade once - they've been worth every penny.
Rotors last way longer than AP and the discs are bigger thus dealing with heat better, without being so big they can't ever get up to operating temp in any other enviroment than a track.
-
Must say I agree....

how much do you wont for them ...
open to sensible offers if you dont have any s3 brakes to px
-
That's an Alcon disc, but not a caliper.
I've pasted mine on 3 Ring trips and 11 track days without an issue, once I'd ditched the DS pads.... vibration central.
-
That's an Alcon disc, but not a caliper.
its a alcon extreme ....£1750 :happy2:
-
I missed the ? off the end, looking again it is an Alcon type B but most likely the 888 version, an Astra VXR?
Regardless I'm betting you got vibration? Those Ferrodo pads really suck ass, took me 1 session at Oulton to melt them to the disc and I had to get the discs re-polished and ditch the pads for something decent. Since then, A-OK.
-
they was cack....very poor and dull, not much feel in them... felt warped when warmish and fadded like mad... had a few sets of pads as they didnt last and wore un even ....Theres a few other vxr owners who have loads of problems , disks bein skimmed left right and centre ...So ill be avoiding alcon..
-
How strange that mine have been so different? Several VW Cup cars run them and a few friends have them on their cars, an M3 CSL and Cayman race car, with no issues either. In fact other than the common DS pad issue I've never heard of a problem, that's why I bought them.
Saying that, VXR's are poo, they fall over at Brunnchen 2
-
lol.....maybe it was a bad batch....The guy DAP is best mates with ben from alcon so im sure they was pucka jobs...I just expected better for that amount of cash....The s3 brakes on my ed30 performed better than my old alcons...
-

I think we both know I give em stick but I only brake when I have too  but then again I set my stock brakes on fire so just proves I used em hard  as for being a convert it's not about that it's just I have had brembo brakes and have them on my scooby front and back of the car so I know my vwr brakes have much more bite and stopping force than them. As for price of them well it's your money do what you want with it and if all you want is scene points then good for you but that's not my game sorry.

I didn't mean it like that - as far as I read it, the sole reason for him wanting those brakes is because they look pretty and say VW Racing on them, I don't think it'd matter if they were good or not.
Now obviously I know they're good, you know they're good - but we got brakes to use them, not for scene points.

....I know what you mean, Mike, and I'm like you and Mat inasmuch that I mod primarily for functional reasons (improved performance) - Keeping cosmetic mods for bodywork rather than mechanical.
BUT.. Something I've learnt here is that there are lots of folks who don't think the same in this respect and do suspension mods as well just for the look - Not my scene either but I've learnt to be tolerant (not suggesting you're not tolerant).
I nonetheless have great difficulty understanding why some folks will spend on either brakes or suspension for cosmetic reasons. For me, handling is soooo important and rewarding when driving. Tactile 'n Taut is my scene! :happy2:
[Even my pretty LED DRL's are for functional reasons ]
-
sorry fella i get you now :ashamed: scene points i just dont get as like you i get things for the car that i am going to use hard and make the driving better and also explore the chassis more :driver: i just dont see the point of slagging something off people have never tried or owned as with any new product its a learning curve as things work on track but are just too much for road life.

Which makes it all the more important that products are properly tested instead of hurriedly put into production and in effect people who buy products at VAST cost become the testing program. Its frustrating when products are very hyped by people on any number of forums without all the testing having been done or the products being proven.
They may well end up the best brakes on the planet, but until they do lets let the brakes do the talking instead. Lets also let people discuss their posible failings as a contrast to those who advocate then without reason or reference to the undertone that there may be some issues with them.
If you charge top dollar then things better be right, if you paid 1800 quid on a remap would you accept it if it misfired sometimes or on occasion wouldn't start. Would you expect it to be right "out of the box". Im good freinds with the new Project Mu dealer for the UK so Im aware what these kits cost wholesale - even with double duty, VAT and shipping theres enough margin for these to be properly tested.

Re pre-public launch testing, I know that AP Racing will bench test some products 24/7 on specially built rigs and also on their company cars for many many months.
VWR are a different kind of company and bring their very extensively track tested products and expertise to what they offer the public.

They're not made by VW, endorsed by VW or covered by your VW warranty for that matter. They are nothing to do with VW, so they're as far from OEM as you can get. They ARE aftermarket parts...
Don't let the fact it's called VW Racing fool you into thinking this is an extension of your dealer's parts dept. It really isn't, they're a completely separate entity and business.
They buy them in from Caparo who simply paint one of their kits red and put pretty stickers on it for you.
See for yourself... www.caparoapbraking.com
They are however great brakes, but the point stands there'd be absolutely no difference to you painting any aftermarket kit red and putting VWRacing stickers on it.
