Sorry for the carp phone pics, but it was   Really original, 10k miles old. Sounded lovely when they moved it! Yours for £350K......................

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Lushness!
So how's the new banger then?
-
That's Porsche Centre Guildford, is it not? If it is I might mosey on down this weekend to have a look.
-
.
What on earth were you doing in a Porsche showroom I wonder, Dave?
Spotted a Cayman S today: utterly beautiful, superbly finished. I'm gonna be begging a ride!

No, it is Hatfield. Lots of lovely motors, a chap in a lamborghini gallardo superleggera very similar to the below pitched up, sounded awesome, then they started the 959 up, and I forgot about the Lambo. :stupid:

Looks very similar to Guildford :P part of the "identity" I suppose. Your Cayman looks super lush... me likey very much. I've often said the only car to change up to from the Golf would be a Cayman... I've been eyeing a white one for awhile now.
-
Looks luuuurvly dave!!
didn't know you had taken the plunge. Knew you were interested at the 'ring as you kept going on about them. Well done pal. How does it feel compared to the ed? Do you have any plans?

A Porsche in he garage, must give you a very warm feeling inside! :notworthy:

You wouldn't like it inside you Nath...........
Have I got the wrong end again? It is a very different car to drive, it just grips and grips, when i get the minerals to really wring it's neck - Stand by.
The noise is something else, at 70, drop it to 3rd, and give it some of the loud pedal, and change up, and the noise, I am sure you could play a tune with it.
I drove it back today, at a steady 70, and it gave me 35.6mpg, traffic sometimes heavy, but lighter at times too!

Well a sitrep. The Cayman is a fantastic car, but with having the MK3 Golf, I found I was driving that more, and the Cayman was spending its time in the garage.
This is due to several reasons, I find the sports seats uncomfortable after 30 mins or so, due to an old back injury, which has flared up again recently (maybe due to the lack of lumbar?). Also getting in and out of it recently was a chore, due to the door opening not being too wide, and the restrictive cockpit. My physio has looked at my driving position, and she noticed the seating postion was offset to the right from the pedals, I had noticed this but was not really mindful of the effect it was having on my Roberta Flack.
I did some chatting with the long haired Sgt Major and also found out that she didnt like driving the Porker, or actaully being in it, she found it too pretentious, and didnt like the ride - least of my worries!
Anyhow, I have done a deal for the Porker and £500, and picked up a 4 month old 5K miles Scirocco R, rising Blue, LED RNS510, 19's, Rear parking, Folding mirrors, Dynaudio, and leather. List £35K........
The drive is totally different from the Cayman, but the lumbar support is a godsend, and nice to have RNS again, the Porker Satnag is awful to be truthful, and a £100 TomTom is a better bet, the Bose in the porker was good, but first impressions of the Dyanudio (Led Zep on loud) are good.
The Roc also came with a good plate too!#
Hence the sale of the MK3 too! one thing I will miss is the noise of that 3.4 flat six. :sad1:

I'm not surprised at all mate. I looked at getting a Boxster S a few years ago and was given one for the day to test drive... I took it back after 30 mins becuase my back was in agony.
I have yet to find a Porshe with a seat that is shaped for humans! The backrests seem to be concave which mean you can sit up straight.
-
nice choice Dave :happy2:
-
if thats the car i think Dave i think you got yourself a bargain if it is the one from VW Bristol the guys sold it for an Exige :happy2:
Yes indeed it is, from Lotus Bristol, also I had a try to get in an Exige today........................
Not a hope in hell.
The Porsche seats are very good laterally, the thigh and shoulder bolsters grip you well, however the seating position is slightly offset with the pedals, and the lack of decent Lumbar support meant that during a drive my back degenerated back to were it was a few years ago. Really sad day, the Cayman was a fantastic involving drive, if only the seating postion was better.
The Rocco R is a car with a different focus, and the drive today was excellent, soundtrack was different though!
The Rocco R is a fantastic looking car, and I am well happy with the deal. I paid in effect less than £26K!
-
That's a great deal Dave :happy2:
I was torn with getting an R, but I would have just gone down the same road again.
How is your back fairing with the RocR then?

Ok today, the seats in the Rocco are simialr to my Ed30, and they have electric Lumabr adjust, no probs today to speak of.
Just off into the garage to sort out the Passenger side mirror reversing function..................
Lots of options ticked on this car.
-
Nice choice :happy2:, are you keeping the standard rims ?

Nice choice UKH! Looking forward to seeing some pics

No mods as yet, will sort out Bluetooth soon I think. Mr P will weave his magic!
-
:happy2:. Any reason for the RocR over the GolfR? good choice in colour.
-
I love the shape of the Rocco, must admit I looked at a Golf R, and the boot is tiny, due to 4 wheel drive shenanagins! and just not a fan of the shape TBH, I looked at the Golf only because the dealer in Bristol had both the Rocco and golf in.
Also the Golf R price is prohibitive, I also got this for a steal! £35k List........................
-
Nice choice dave :happy2: but sad to see another cayman go so soon..
Agree with some of your issues especially the nav but never had any issues with the seats and that's after some mammoth 5/6 hr joyrides when I first got her. Fuel consumptions an issue as it seems to drink it, but luckily it's just a evening and weekend toy for me which is what they are best used for.
Love he rocco r though, certainly the smartest Vw out at the moment but interesting to hear how much they have dropped in a year... Did you loose much on the cayman?
Gonna stick with mine a bit longer got a tubi exhaust on the way soon
-

Nice, best colour, their's not much point in having a cracking car and that leaves you in agony. Satnav's are a real wind-up, the BM wont let you put the full post code in, should have saved a grand and got a Tom Tom.
Enjoy :happy2:
Neil

.
Crikey, I'm very surprised the Cayman S is gone but I do understand if you've got back troubles. Am afraid I have to say that your long-haired Sgt-Major needs court-martialling if she thinks any Porsche is "pretentious".
If it was me I think I'd be looking into getting some custom seats made - Anything to keep such a special car.
:happy2:
-
Looks good UKH!! :congrats:
Look forward to seeing her in the flesh soon! :happy2:

959 one of my all times!
-
Looking very good QD! :congrats:

aha was wondering what this thread about a 959 was about...didn't realise u had posted the new pics on here!
Damn nice looking car that....looks rather similar to mine :signLOL:
Yours look more 4x4 than mine. Been talking to someone else who's just had H&R's fitted.
Eibach apparently are releasing a specific R spec springs soon. Gonna try and get my hands on those.
Be good to meet up for some twin piccies. :happy2:

H&R -35mm's FTW, work well with the ACC as well - welcome back QD

I'm considering springs but I don't want to make the already firm drive even harder !!

What ACC setting you use for daily driving?
Will try and find out some more re the Eibachs next weekend. But many have fitted the H&Rs with no problems or increased stiffness.

I use comfort :chicken:

I do too haha use normal for track. Sport round the Ring was too much. Could really feel the difference!
-
I do too haha use normal for track. Sport round the Ring was too much. Could really feel the difference!
....Talking about Sport in ACC suspension and not DSG Sport-mode, why was it "too much"? Don't you prefer the feel of lots of feedback?
I don't know if the ACC differs on the R version of the Rocco, but I didn't like the Comfort setting on the standard Rocco, and Normal did nothing for me.
I guess we each simply have different preferences - Which is why it's nice VW offer it I suppose.
-
The ACC settings are different to the one on the normal rocco. I did first lap in comfort mode and it was alright. Next one switched to sport mode and it just made it stiffer and crashy almost, I could REALLY feel the undulations and bumps everywhere. Can't recall if throttle response changed as I normally don't care about that, but it was the feeling I got in the drivers seat that made wee bit less confident. Next time round put it in Normal mode and I felt I could push more and had great fun!!!
:happy2:
-
:congrats: Very nice mate. Keep looking at these every time I go to the stealers.
-
Very nice QD. Just been reading the reports on these in VW Driver that Mr H kindly loaned me.
They reckon 50 - 70 (IIRC) the Rocco is faster than the Golf and faster than a lot of other cars including RS4
-
Well an update................... Will start at thebeginning to save reading back several pages.
Had a fun time with cars, I usually keep them for 3-4 years. Not of late in the quest for a car I could enjoy.
I had an Edition 30 Golf, which I kept for 3 years, did a few bits to it, made it go round corners better - Coils, Decent brakes (996TT Brakes with a 350mm disc and S3 Rears), and an LSD all assisted. Milly added and some tech (BT and Rear View camera), and alll was well. Note I remapped it for 150 miles and hated it, so std it predominately stayed in the power dept.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv211%2Fstokeballoon%2FDSCF1465.jpg&hash=59114ce33d6b1beada908ab30e930eef1cc804e0)
Until I changed to this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv211%2Fstokeballoon%2FWP0ZZZ98Z8U770156_1.jpg&hash=48425c4592ce974b74695645ab7379be2e73fff3)
Cayman S - Xenons, Sat nav, Sports seats, 19's, all the good bits, and it was a stonking car, until I tried to get out of the drivers seat after a hours drive, I was in agony. The seating position in a Cayman is all out of line, and my back didnt enjoy it. The pedals are not in line with the seat and SW. So it went, I actually found I was driving an old MK3 more, and it was staying in the garage.
Then this came up at very cheap money, and I mean cheap (4 months old, 5K miles, fully loaded - sat nav, leather, 19's, Dynaudio, Folding mirrors etc) I banked the rest of the Porker cash.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv211%2Fstokeballoon%2FDSCF3105.jpg&hash=7cd7505852cc9ec2179eefb8efe7e62f2aa25ac5)
Old MK3 anni in background.
The Roc even came with a very good Number plate, which was worth £800, I retrofitted a Rear view camera, BT, various LEDs (Illum door handles etc), Bonnet strut (Roc R comes with an old style bonnet stay!)
It was only an interim car, as I looked for something to really replace the Porker............................. (cash burning big holes in bank - nearly bought another bike, until a mate was killed in the IOM TT)...... Well, I was offered a very good deal at month end by a dealer (after much haggling and talking - it took 2 weeks to do the deal! - I actually had walked away and he came back to me on Sunday 27th Feb) against the below, provided I could do the deal over the phone last week by the morning of the 28th Feb. So I left a deposit against a car I had not even seen, never mind driven, with the caveats of me driving and inspecting it. I must add I had test driven one at my local dealer..........
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv211%2Fstokeballoon%2F2544848-6.jpg&hash=09fb5da11873aa36a50e09a932c93a27c5a4039c)
So Wednesday last week, I drove, inspected and drove away in the above, I got over 2.5k off the screen price, and the dealer offered me 2k more than I paid for the Roc! So I was very happy with the deal. Dealer did not want the Cruise, or BT, left in the Roc as they had not been specced from new, so out they came, was a bit of a rush (cheers Mr P for the advice on the phone!) :stupid:
Back to the coiffeurs car............
The car is a July 10, has 1400 miles, extras are 19's - Titanium, privacy glass, RNS E, Hill Hold, Black leather, heated seats, Black grill and details pack, Interior light pack, Bluetooth, AMI, Service pack, Extra leather details (not sure if that is an Audi Option but the dealer said it was), Cruise Control, Adaptive lights, fully electric seats etc.
So essentially the Roc and just over 9k got me into a virtually new, very well specced TTRS. I was looking into ordering an RS3, but didn't want a Sportback, nor a 'S-Tronic gearbox'.
Plans for the TT, none, it is mind blowing! I am loving it to death. Must say First impressions are the RNSE is not a patch on the RNS 510, but does seem more professional (if you get what I mean), and the sport button is a great toy!
Ps I was well impressed by the Audi dealer. Will get some better pics at the weekend, and I must emphasise the noise is phenomenal, not grating and tiresome like the sound that the BSH mounts gave me, but like the old Quattro's of yesteryear!
-
Very nice motor QD
-
WOW! :notworthy: I wasn't expecting that, nice motor Dave, you are a very lucky guy! Will you be bringing this to the Ring?
-
awesome car dave, and if i had the cash then thered be one in my drive way right now!
had the pleasure of thrashing toms around outon last weekend, and they really are a complete package, sound, performance, handling
-
Nice :happy2:, i did look at these but was surprised to find no space in the back for the little one :surprised:
-
No requirement for a kids seat with me.
-
Very nice QD you are a sly old dog.
-
As said before ..... WINNER!
-
Cheers all.
Ian - it took a long period of negotiation and playing various dealers off against each other. I ended up persuading a Salesman that he would like the extra car in his sold portfolio for month end.
I wanted a car, that would fully replace the Cayman, and also be a daily driver. :driver:
-
As said before ..... WINNER!
Jay, best get some BoS ready, I will purchase some, once some Roc bits have been sold.
-
Verrry nice car you have there QD :happy2: Good deal that sounds too. A quick question, what do you mean when you say BT? The only 'BT' I know is big turbo and I doubt you'll have fitted one of those on your rocco! :signLOL:
-
Sorry Luke.
BT = Bluetooth.
-
Sorry Luke.
BT = Bluetooth.
Ah right, makes a lot more sense now! :signLOL:
-
If you think its great now, stage one will blow your mind!!! I love these cars, congrats QD!
-
If you think its great now, stage one will blow your mind!!! I love these cars, congrats QD!
I have heard that. But trust me, for now it is blinding. The noise, and ease at which it makes daft speeds so accessible is astounding.
-
:notworthy:
Beautifully done. Now when are you going to JPC to get the car detailed?
-
Welcome to the TTRS club.
Needs a remap though, and a miltek, and some arbs!
-
In your opinion.
For example in my opinion the Ed30 was blinding without a remap. Not so good with one!
But very much ETTO, I am just over the moon with a standard car, and for the price....................
-
Fantastic purchase Dave, congrats :driver:
-
And some hair products
-
Something for the weekend sir? :pomppomp:
Love it mate and can't wait for a blast! :driver:
-
Congrats, Dave. You have very good taste, as I like all 4 cars in your update/progress thread!
-
.
Nice one, Dave! I can understand you not wanting to mod* the TT-RS. Soooo much better than the Rocco, but just my opinion. :happy2:
Edit: *Except the exhaust, but that's just me - I like some noiz.
-
You heard a standard ttrs with the sport button on robin??
The noise is awesome!
-
WANT!!!
-
the mrs keeps eyeing these up, very nice ride dude :happy2:
-
You heard a standard ttrs with the sport button on robin??
The noise is awesome!
....Not yet, Jay  Methinks I'd be riding with the Sport button on permanently - Well, I know I would!
-
They are awesome robin ;)
-
^^^^
That RS 5-pot turbo engine is what attracts me to the RS3. QD doesn't live a million miles away from me so I better not visit. I ain't got the money available anyway.
-
I must say, the 'sport' button is addictive.
I 'buzzed' a pesky Ford Fucup yesterday, and the noise had me grinning, even hear it above Duran Duran wildboys on full volume. :signLOL:
The Ford driver went past as I turned off, with his thumb up out of the window, I am sure he was trying to bait me..... :chicken:
one downside, is that neighbours now know of my movements..................

seal of approval from me sir :happy2:
-
The cold start can be a bit noisy, I agree :ashamed:
-
How come you didnt wait for the s-tronic verson.
Set of engine mounts now and a Milltek and it's sorted.
Congrats Dave. I had the pleasure of a few laps at Oulton in Tom's and the handling is epic, his is standard as well, and the car was so balanced on track.
Can you book me in for a cut and blow dry now.
-
Can you book me in for a cut and blow job now.
