my brother is after something diesel that is involving/entertaining, not much of a power difference if at all, that must be able to cope wih track work.
he's running a stage 1 focus ST at the moment. he does quite a few track days and needs it o be competent as standard but wants it to be half decent on fuel due to his long commutes.
he says budget is between 8-11k.
I said
Octavia vRS CR170, or BMW of some sort???
what do you guys think he should be looking at.
-
Could only be a 330cd diesel and involving is hard but the 330 and 335 are very good! Could not get 335 for that money though.
-
oh yes u can :P
have a look on the autotrader
-
what about a
BMW 123d
alpina d3
whats available other than bmw??
idint the impreza bring out a WRX diesel?
-
Fabia vRS.
I'll get me coat. :ashamed:
-
 not sure he'd be up for that lol.
-
Silver Slingshot

3 series with the 163bhp 2.0d engine can see an extra 45bhp and 75 ft/lb with a good map, raise the rev limit slightly and set the boost map up properly and they will pull hard to 5700 rpm and retain 50+ mpg on a run.
-
whats the market like for chassis tuning on the 320D??
-
theres plenty of stuff out there, but tbh its pretty close to perfect as standard if its got the Msport suspension. If it doesnt have the Msport kit then the Bilstein B12 kit is available for around £600
For a cheap 163bhp version look for a fleet car that is listed as a 150bhp, check the engine code and you might well find that its really a 163 version that is de-tuned. these versions are up to £2k cheaper than a 'genuine' 163 version.

:happy2:
-
Was going to list 335d or 123d till I saw the budget.. :ashamed: My mate has a mapped 330d E46 and that certainly shifted. How focused it would be as a track car though i'm not sure.
-
Have to be a hatchback for me so A3/GTTDI MK5/Leon FR/120-30D
-
oh yes u can :P

a 335d for 11k? what autotrader you looking on? as said could only be a bmw for me, by far the best diesels, still a diesel but rwd for bit of fun, a fwd diesel on track would be pretty dull :happy2: cue the i got 250 bhp mapped up diesels that has 10000000000000000 lb of torque people :signLOL:
-
My Diesel has 100000000000000000000000000000000lb/ft :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
As said before a Fabia VRs :happy2:
But if not a BMW 330d M-Sport
-
my brother has just bought a e46 330cd and it certainly shifts, just had it mapped by CA automotive, 248bhp and 320torques. still gets between 45-50 mpg on the motorway. he got it with 45k miles and paid 9,500, comes with all the toys aswell as its the top of the range msport disael.
-
330cd M-Sport is deffo the best bet for the money. I've had 2 and they drive and handle superbly. Miles better than my GTI or my old S3. I remapped one of them and the torque was immense!
Add to the speed and handling the terrific economy and quiet cruising and it's hard to beat as a package
-

-
Don't you mean Torque :P :signLOL:
-
What about a Megane 2.0 dCi 175 Renaultsport? Evo raved about it.

Shame it's an auto, otherwise it would have been great for some track work.
Having said that, I could do with a cheap auto for all the miles I do... I wonder if he would take me GTI as a swap
-
There is another with 65k on that is a manual for £9,500 I am not a big fan of red therefore refused to post it
-
This thread has just cost me 10k
I started looking on autotrader yesterday after reading and replying and found a lovely 2005 330d coupe Msport with 40k miles with every extra possible (xenons, electric rear windows, phone prep, cruise, full leather, tiptronic) in silver in pristine condition.
Now its on my drive after spending this morning mapping it :jumping: it now has 352bhp and 363 f/lb and 40+ mpg
-
I'm on my 2nd 335d coupe since my mk5 Golf GT 170 Diesel
It is the best diesel engine on the market IMO - even in std trim it's a storming engine - remapped - circa 340bhp - 500+ lbs/ft it's a real contender again some more exotic machines ! ! !
-
:worthless:
-
congrats mate, awsome car :happy2: as said fwd diesel on track would not even come close!! who said fabia vrs :surprised:
-
My Fabia VRS made 250bhp and 380 ft/lb. Hybrid turbo, sachs clutch, exhaust, front mounted intercooler with full stainless and silicon boost pipes, custom map. It shifted fretty well :driver:
