Title: Corrado FSI - Update 07/08/10
Post by: MaverickFSI on June 16, 2010, 10:25:32 pm
Hi guys,

I understand to see 'Corrado' in the subject heading is a bit unheard of, especially on a forum dedicated to Mk5 GTI's, but bear with me.

As I've already briefly mentioned in the newbie section, I drive a '92, what was a G60, but recently removed the engine with the intention of putting something a bit unique as a replacement. I considered all sorts of engines, S3, R32, supercharged VR6 and even an S4 V6 Bi-turbo, which I'm sad to say I didn't opt for due to the amount of modification required to get it to fit  :surprised:. So I continued my search for something a little different and not so common, and you'll be pleased to know I decided on a 2.0 FSI BWA engine from a 2008 GTI. Having kept an eye on several FSI engines on eBay, I soon learned there value and what you expect to get thrown in as well. This engine though, was a bargain, the sale consisted of;

Engine
Gearbox
Running Gear
Clocks
ECU
Keys
Loom
Turbo

All for £900, and the engine has only done 10k!!!

I expect to take delivery this Saturday, so I'll post pictures up this weekend.

Mean while here are some pictures of the removal of the G60 engine.

sounds interesting....

Did you consider the 1.4TSI also?  I bet that would be a nice transplant for something like this or a mk2

Cheers guys, it will certainly be an interesting yet challenging build. I must admit, I am starting to wonder why I haven't seen many other older VW's with this engine in

I did briefly consider that but I wanted something with a little more substance. I have only ever seen the Mk5 GTI engine in a Mk2 and it looked awesome, it packed out very nicely . On that basis, it should fit in the Corrado bay.

BBS splits is a very good shout, sort of limited as the G60 is only 4 stud, but there are ways round that.

Looking forward to this. There's more mk2/rado's with 1.8 20vt than mk4 these days. Good to see someone try different.

thats insane.  BWA engines can be picked up for about 1k and less now.

250Bhp+/ton power to weight with practically no lag

@ the OP.

how much custom work is required to fit this engine?

@ carl  id love to, but i dont have the time for a project like this.
