Title: Difference's in standard Dub Radio
Post by: Lee01 on June 17, 2010, 12:11:03 pm
Hi All,

I am sure one of you guys are likely to know the answer.
At present I have a standard radio with black buttons, I have come across a radio CD unit from a Jetta (RCD300) which is very similar however has silver buttons.

Two questions:
1, Will the Jetta unit (RCD300) be a simply swap in my Golf GTi 2006 car?
2, What is the difference in the units? or s it just the colour of buttons?

Many thanks
Lee

Hi Lee,

Yes it should be a straight swap, I done the same in my golf- mine came with the rcd300 radio with black buttons as it's an early mk5, changed it to the rcd300 with silver buttons. Same radio just looks better I guess! I know you can also get a rcd300 with silver buttons and it says 'mp3' just above the cd slot, obviously means it will support mp3 and play more songs etc.

VW fit these radios to Golf, Golf +, Jetta, Passat, Touran... so it shoudn't be a problem to stick it in your golf.

Would anyone know if VW or anyone else do an ipod connection interface for this radio?

In my car I have the genuine VW ipod adapter thing. Don't know too much technical info but it basically plugs into the back of the radio and the wire/adapter runs into the glovebox so you can plug your ipod in and leave it in the glovebox. You can control the ipod using the stereo buttons. It's worth looking into.

An example of the ipod kit (can prob get it cheaper than this though):
