well i get myself a tidy 4 figure bonus on payday at the end of the month, and its now track day season so its time to get the car ready for some abuse:jumping: :jumping:
firstly-brakes
My brakes need changing all around anyway. i was going to go bbk, but am going to hold out for a minute until i see something good going second hand on ebay after summer. in the mean time i need;
Discs front and rear(std size)
-Do i stay Oem for good value, if so where is best to buy them online??
-or are there any decent after market ones(Oem sized), that wont cost the world??
Pads Front and rear
-i want pads that will take a days abuse on track and yet will still be alright for normal road use. I cant really be bothered with changing them before and after. This also needs to bear in mind that they will be on std 312 discs with no air ducting(heat issues???) im also pretty hard on the brakes, and am braking a heavier car than the GTI.
what am i looking at then:
ferrodo DS2500/DS3000
Pagids ####??
im not to familiar with the options for fast fast road, and track TBH.
braided hoses
- who sells the best full sets for the GTI
Brake fluid
-Im thinking of going motul RBF600, any other ideas??
Second-Handling
Well the car is completely stock and after previously running i on coilovers, ARBs and WALK, it does feel pants, although the comfy suspension is having massive positive points on the local roads in comparison to before.
-Soooo im definately going to get the TT lower arms fitted first. (TFSI_mike might not be aware of it, but he will be receiving some paypal fundage when he gets back to germany :grin:)
but the toss up is do i fit them with the WALK and a poly bush for the other side,
or
Do i fit this new superpro bush for the additional caster into the standard lower arm mount and TT arms??
Ideas anyone??
Tyres
Well i want to try out a few tracks ive never done before, so im going to be looking at ooop north for some track days. This means covering quie a bit alot of mileage as im all the way down south in kent, and since i dont have spare alloys for track day tyres, ill be sticking to high perfomance road tyres.
-the tyre needs to be good on track, wet or dry, have a good tread ware rating and last at least 7-10K and upwards.
this is my short list:
goodyear eagle F1's (treadware rating??)
micheline PS3's (treadware rating??)
vredestein ultrac Sessanta's treadware rating 280
lastly she can have her full service and an early MOT done whilst i have plenty of cash sitting about
so that will be about £250 id expect. (brake fluid, Air con, Oil, fuel filters, etc)
guys can you advise me on what you would be picking of the above or maybe something i should do instead :happy2:

Tyres - Michelin PS3. better than Eagle or Vreds imho and i've used them all
Brake stuff - Get an R32 setup. Otherwise Euro car parts (they have a depot in canterbury and ashford) do the oem & Pagid stuff cheap. Euro Car Parts Clicky (http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/Car-Parts)
Pads - DS2500 but get them off for normal road use. I had squeal like hell from mine.
WALK i would have out of the 2.
The rest of the stuff i don't know about Fluid & hoses as to which would be best.

vred treadwear 140?? my Toyo R1R are 140. i would recommend the R1R and you can expect to change tires before winter but you will have loads of grip on your trackdays.
Get R32 or davidb's economy kit.
TT lower arms and Walk is a good combo, :happy2:

im not changing calipers yet as said above. i need new discs anyway so the porsche calipers would then be a further 300-500 on top of that once you include pads etc.
the std calipers will stay along with 312mm discs,
I also wrote the wrong treadware rating then :grin:

I've driven 5 cars with the R32 set up now, and i really dont rate it that highly, hence why i sold the ones i bought off jon-tfsi off. they are not that much better than 312, and i eventually want a BBK, so i dont want to just throw money away, and also from what DaveB said there is a limited high performance pad availability for the R32 setup. plus when i sent them off they were over 50kg :surprised:

squeal isnt an issue, copper grease and or anti squeel plates beind the pad wil sort that. DS2500 are more fast road than track aswell, and some guys have mentioned about DS2500's leaving residue everywhere when they get very hot, hence why i want to know more about pagids and other high end stuff, as i do use the brakes hard on track.

Avoid copper grease near your brake pads. That will contaminate them.

Treadware is 320 on PS3
With the R32 I have to disagree. I'm no expert but I think they are a superb upgrade, far better than standard caliper with DS2500 pads which is what I had before.
I can't comment for track use but fast road use they are miles ahead of the 312's in my opinion. I know your after track day use but the R32 would be the best compromise would it not.

im just going off mine with hawk HP+ pads and motul fluid. after driving them, (they are all more powerful than mine as well) ive not really noticed any difference, when braking hard. I agree for an everyday compromise im sure they are bang on, but considering i want a BBK in the future it would be a waste of money. these will only have to last until autumn. :happy2:
treadware rating of 320 is good. i was expecting less than the vredesteins. Im definitely swaying towards the PS3's.

id keep the motul fluid, there are other good fliuds out there but the rbf has a high wet boiling point, and the castrol isnt worth double the cost imo.
id stick ith the standard discs too and the ds 2.5ks are good from cold but come in too there own when warmed up !
ive not had any squeak from them either !
hoses, the quality of the hels are really good better than the goodridges id say so id go for them again unless you can get a good deal on the goodridges
As for tyres the f1s are great although i do hear the new pilot sports are good too, so i might shift once my crappy potenzas are away on the front.

If you intend on keeping the standard calipers then I suggest you think about getting the TyrolSport Brake Caliper stiffenings kit. It gives a better brake pedal feeling vs standard. The downside is that you need to lube them at least once a year.

Regarding brakes, you could get the HEL lines and spend some money on some quality SBS or BremTech 312 aftermarket jobbies, both of which would shift over to the Porsche Stuff if thats the way you end up going, I can see used tidy 312's doing a few quid if you decide to go a different direction. They prove desirable as theres a good choice of carbon metallics for the boxster caliper and it aint good to mix and match discs.
DS2500 will be 120+ better to go for M1144s for maybe 85 quid- same performance but the m1144's will come back to you when you get them too hot DS's wont... you might get some money back for them lightly used as well w2hen you upgrade.

Absolutely no issues with them on my recent ring trip unlike the previous DS's, couple of laps to get them hot and a little smoky to get them bedded and they were ace! Plenty of bite and a great pedal feel and fade progressively when too hot, let them cool for a corner or two and they come right back and dont smear themselves all over the disc...
Mine are backed with 3m anti-squeal sticky stuff and plenty of ceratec whilst fitting, nice and quiet now! :happy2:

x2. I removed Tom's Mintex due to being noisy, just prior to the Ring. Refitted them using some Coppaslip, and cleaned the discs up, and all great. He reckoned they were fantastic, and his car was blinding fast.

thank you for saying the potenzas are crap, so far i've been the only one expressing this opinion. They utterly st*nk. I'm so glad i've gotten rid of them :smiley:

it tuns out ive managed to get a set of front and rear oem discs that have covered 800miles off of neg on here. they will do the trick until autumn.
Dave what pads are M1144's. these sound good, and the HELlines definately transfer between the std caliper and the porsche 4 pot calipers. If so ill get them, ive seen them on Dubteks site for not to much cash.
can someone point me in the direction of these anti squeel shims that your talking about. :happy2:

as much as id love to a new set of TDs along with some nw track tyres to put on them, id still need a set of 4 boots for the car anyway, as well as the brakes, and then were eating into the track day budget.
