** lets not go on about the price, although bloody hell !! **
If you want to beat the waiting list and on the look out for a fully loaded R then look no further, quite like the half leather Recaro's!

I've got to say, the R doesn't look great in red.

Its my car but for twice the ammount. Love Red/Black Gloss combo.
But i am bias of course.
Anyone wanna by my car for 30k and then that R is mine!......................
No hope :sad1:
-
The only different from that one to the Milltek one I current have is the colour and seats, and after driving one for two weeks I would certainly buy one :happy2:
-
Love the red, it really suits it. Hmmm I think an 2009 E90 M3 would get my money

this is my point with vw it was a car for the people but now its the company that saying oops the mk5 cost us too much to make so lets make the mk6 cheaper but yet rip them all off with the price  i think vw need to take a step back and think about the company 40k for a golf thats just :stupid:
-
For £40k I'd be looking at a 3-series. Maybe even an M3. There's one with 10k on the clock.
-
Stretch an extra 2k or negotiate hard and you can have a 57 plate BMW M6 with low miles in interlagos blue, that's capable of 205 mph standard!
-
I knew the comparision would come along, I do the same - wasnt the intention of the post - in a way I am suprised to see one at that value, the seats are nice but well overpriced.
Not keen on the Red, black or white for me.
Steve, Was tempted to drive past Miltek today to see if I could spot your car, really like to take a look at it in the flesh.
-
After showing a clean pair of heels to one while in the S3 (it was obviously not run in properly) i would rather an S3, a lot of change and some choice mods! It looked nice but i prefer mine.
Also the seats are great but i dont miss them at all, extremely impractical and not as comfy for long journeys as my standard ones.
-
I could see them being slightly impractical on a daily basis. Mate has the active one's in his RS4 but he only uses it for fun and weekends.
The S3 over the R is so tempting - just wont the new A3 be out later this year, the Golf's advantage is its a newer model - not just the R mind you the GTI too, whack a K04 on one of those ...Mmmmm
anyway back on topic
-
New A3 is 2011 with the S3 2012, so a while away. The MK7 is supposed to be released the same time (same platform i presume) so the R wont be that new.
Also depends what you want, something new or something you love! If i had £40k i wouldnt get either an R or an S3, id turbo a MK5 R32 and leave both of them behind with a noise to match
-
Saw this a while back, really weird that they put everything on it then spec red !!, tbh you could go to a dealer and pay less than what they are asking with negotiating for exactly the same spec
-
I've got to say, the R does look great in red.
:booty: :booty:
Don't get me wrong, red is one of my favourite MK5 colours, and is the colour I'd order a MK GTI in. Just doesn't look good on the R for some reason.
-
.
Reading the thread title I expected this R to be performance modified at the very least.
I'd rather see a red Golf R in the flesh before judging the colour.
Re Mat and stokey's comments about it not being a 'car of the people': Didn't that cease to be several decades ago? The UK tax on foreign cars saw to that. The Golf is perhaps the car of the middle classes, but their prices excludes the GTI/Ed30/R32/R variants methinks.
-
40k for a golf :stupid: & the wheels look crap in black.
-
I think it looks alright but not stunning, but again, for that price :surprised: people's car; yeah right
-
They really are starting to grow on me and love this one in white.. (apart from having to many doors)
Still counldn't justify the difference over a similar spec S3 though (especially when you're paying £1300 more for the same Recaros :stupid:)
-
forget the price because as said :stupid: but i have to say i think its the best looking golf ever. love it :happy2: real grower, did not like it at first. :happy2:
-
A spec that high and then skimp on the metallic silver or blue paint.....shame :P
-
TTRS money
-
Reminds me of a chavved up Astra I see hooning about locallly. Sorry.
Must be the red paint that spoils it for me
-
TTRS money
Nothing wrong with Red.
Nothing wrong with that car.
-
For f*cks sake!
You can't say don't go on about the price. IT'S JUST A GOLF!
I wouldn't pay £40k for a golf if it was the fastest car on the planet. At the end of the day, I just paid just over half that for a 330i coupe with 14,000 on the clock. What kind of moron pays £40k for a golf? It may be quite quick and have 4 wheel drive, but it's still JUST A GOLF.
Most of the extras on that car come as standard on a £35k BMW, Audi or Merc. I just don't get it.
Rant over :chicken:

....Someone who wants everything which the Golf R has to offer, who isn't fussed about what they spend to get the car they want or which suits their needs, someone who isn't a snob about the badge on their car.
I'm not about to buy a Golf R but I am that someone who you think is a moron.
-
That statement in the first paragraph is at a bit obvious really. Could be said of anything that someone didn't care what they spent. For me it just doesn't represent good value, but that's best saved for another day......
-
It is a lovely car and lovely spec, but the red just doesn't suit the R!
I think I'll save £15k and carrying on hooning round in one in a different playsuit!

Superb and soooo cleeeeeean! :notworthy: One of the very best blues for a car too.
-
NIce Tom, best pic I have seen if your car - didnt realise it was the facelift too.
I keep swaying more towards the S3 - and that pic hasnt helped me!

I'd like to find me a £35k BMW/Audi that has Nav, Buckets/leather, DSG, Reversing camera, Bluetooth etc as standard mate? BMW are one of the worst for poverty spec in standard form. I was looking at a new 135i and for a £30k range topping model you don't even get Xenons, leather, upgraded stereo over lower models, armrest etc
-
.
I've just seen that blue Golf R again that's local to me.. Gotta say that it really does look a quality built car and certainly up to Audi's high standards. It has good road presence and those tail lights are awesome. The DRL's aren't bad either
-

Er my 335D was £35k brand new, with five years servicing, with a much bigger spec than that golf. I could have had a 335i for less, but needed a diesel. Alright I do have my own terms with BMW, but it's all down to value for money. In a years time my car will still be worth £35k, the golf won't be worth £40k ..........
.... I'm sure this has all been discussed before...... Zzzzzzzzz

....It most certainly has. And the OP specifically asked for this thread not to discuss the VFM subject.
Did you know that the Golf R has proper DRL's?

Mate, i'm not for a min disputting that i'd rather have a rather a new 335i/335d (yours looks mint by the way ) over a Golf R (especially value for money). My point was that AFAIK you don't get that sort of spec as standard on a 35k BMW or Audi.
Which of those options came standard on yours mate?
-
^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Golf R is not expensive to those who can afford it ....
-
^^^^^ And that sums it up.
A typical R buyer is probably someone who could afford a big luxury car but doesn't want one. In fact he probably has a big 4x4 as a family car and possibly other cars at his/her disposal too. I'm sure VW did their homework before releasing it, and it's not the first time the top Golf has been horrendously overpriced compared to what the average Golf owner would consider as affordable.
For us mere mortals there is always the just released Leon Cupra R if you need 5 doors and an involving drive.
-
^^^^
Don't think of yourself as "a mere mortal" just because you may currently not be able to afford a Golf R, Andy. Folks with money aren't necessarily any better as human beings.
-
VA, thank you for the comments on the car. 4 wheels and a steering wheel were standard......, however £35k was my fully spec'd price, I saved over £10k on the retail.
RR I like factory fit DRLs, I hsve mine on all the time......
