Title: Hello and help me find a Golf
Post by: VWKD on June 19, 2010, 09:30:03 pm
Hi all,

Thought I'd register on here in hope I might get some advice/pointers in my search for a Mk5 Gti.

Currently I have a 2002 Mk4 GTI TDI 150 which I will be looking to PX on a Mk5 GTI.

From what I've seen so far I reckon I should be able to pick up a 2006 or older MK5 for less than 8k and this is the ones I'm looking at as this is all the budget will stretch to.

These are the 2 that interest me at the moment
Silver One (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1506453.htm)
Red One (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/uvl/popup.jsp?currentaction=searchresults&e2w=50002&sort=5&did=50002&partner=TMG&postcode=nn126bt&dropdowntype=uvl&configfile=http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/50002/50002_config.xml&miles=1500&csslocation=http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/50002/50002&max_records=200&id=201023360815320&distance=0','VehicleDetails','680','530','201023360815320','0');)

I presume the red one above has panoramic roof ? anyone point me  in the direction of some decent pics of a panoramic one.

As you can see they both have over 100k on them which I've pretty much resided myself to with the budget and I'm not that fussed as my current Gti only did 1600 miles last year.. I have a passat running on waste chip fat that I use as my daily :)

Any thoughts on these cars ?

Any tips on the best place to look ? been looking on Pistonheads, Ebay and Autotrader to date. The car must be a 5door as have 2 young kids.

cheers

Hello and Welcome  :happy2:

The Red one is about 10mins away from me and believe it was a painted or vinyl wrapped black roof as the Mk5 never came with a panoramic roof, only a smaller sunroof as an option.

Interesting.. is that a bad thing ? Is this something done by VW ? or would the owner have done it?

Wish it was 10 mins from me.

I had a look at a Black DSG that was 10 mins from me on Friday, but not sure about DSG.. are flappy paddle optional ? as I couldn't see any.. I could only look from outside as garage was closed for lunch !

Twas this one (http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201022360224748/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/9000/price-from/8000/model/golf/make/volkswagen/quicksearch/true/page/2/radius/30/postcode/sn140yr?logcode=p)

On the early DSG cars the paddles were an option.

On the red one it will have been something the owner has done and not VW. Depending on the Moto GP traffic tomorrow if I can I will swing by the garage and have a look to confirm  :happy2:

If you are passing that would be great cheers.

I'm gonna try and look at the silver one tomorrow if I can find time.

Is there anything I need to look out for on these cars ?

Cheers

Only had quotes down the phone so far for 'around 4k' from the dealers selling those cars... car is 2002 (02) GT TDI 150, Indigo, No mods, Climate, Heated seats, headlight washers, 86k FSH, 12months T&T had it for 4 years.

Went and had a look at the Red one you linked above, it was inside the showroom and does have either a painted or vinyl wrapped roof.

For the money it doesn't look too bad but I think the wheels aren't original Monza II and look like reps.

Cheers for that if I could work out how to give you a thank-you I would  :drinking:   I have to admit I'm not sure on the roof now I know it's not panoramic and some non standard mod (think those modding days are behind me now, except for my VW Camper which is quite the exception) but I am liking red.

The roof looks quite good for the view I got of it, and if it's vinyl can be easily removed.

This is what it looks like (with a crap iPhone camera)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Fd992a5ce.jpg&hash=391e95f6297c53a1b5b37f02eb0c48541ad32592)

As for the wheels most people won't be able to tell there replicas (and they still may not be) but the sat a little be worth out in the arches and the finish on the wheel face didn't look like the normal OEM finish.
