Hi guys, new to the forum, and the Golf GTI. I've come from Imprezas, and the one issue I have with my GTI is brake feel, or rather, the lack of it. Ok, I've been used to big ol' Bremos on the STi, but I find I can't feel the grip through the pedal like I could with the Scooby. There's plenty of stopping power, but no feel.
Now, I don't want to start down the path to the Darkside, modifying brakes etc. I'd like to know views about standard brake feel. For the record, I have an 08 DSG, with 15k on the clock. The pads are fine if a bit squealy at times (OEM, plenty of life left) despite having them out and cleaning the pad surfaces. My next step is fluid change, then after that..??

Hi mate, i would go for an OEM fluid change and new Oem pads. My car feels a lot nicer to drive after the work was carried out, smoother and more feel.
I am told with DSG/auto the pads are prone to glazing, and i believe a little fade under extreme track use, this could be inneficient standard brake calipers or muppets at the wheel or both :signLOL:.
Hope this helps, no doubt someone else will be along to help shortly, or verbally kick my face in for my suggestions haha :jumpmove:

.
VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) cars are well known for their poor servo feel. Achieving a better pedal feel and response depends how far you want to go and spend on modding, a good aftermarket big brake kit being the obvious solution.

im changing my brakes this month for a few track days before i get a Big brake kit in the autumn. getting new discs all round, ill be fitting pagid fast road/track pads, and braided hoses along with some motul RBF600 fluid. im pretty sure there will be a marked increase in pedal feel, especially as mine havent been bled for a while.
there is the option of getting the tyrol brake bushings, which replace the soft bushes and should give additional feel

Thanks Truckie. The glazing usually comes from low speed brake dragging on DSG/auto boxes. Precisely why I pulled the pads & cleaned the faces. I'm not going to modify in any way as braking power is fine, the feel issue is just a niggle. Anyway, I'm due a service fairly soon so I'll have a chat with the local service dept, they're very helpful.

I used the tyrol sport bushing kit on my mk4 - questionable results really, no percievable difference and they need looking after

Ever since I bought my GTI, I've harped on about how the brakes are crap at anything above 50mph.

I would put money on them to make zero difference... like dave says 'no percievable difference'!

To me they really made a noticable difference.
