Well folks for those who are not upgrading to iPhone 4 or are in 2 minds as to wether to just get the New OS or Upgrade then today is the day that iOS4 is released.
It doesn't get released till 1800 GMT reason being all Apple updates are released at 1000 Cupertino time on the day of release which is 8hrs behind GMT.
So with past experience either sit there hitting check update button in iTunes from 1800. Or wait till about 1900 when the initial rush calms down.
I for one will be updating to see if i really need the new iPhone 4 (well just to please the wife before she buys me one for my Birthday :evilgrin: )

Do we know if it's been jail broke yet ?, as a few people already have os4 .

Not yet that i can find. But it has been confirmed that it is unlockable so i doubt it will be too long before it's available

I'm off down to O2 to see the useless f*cktards at lunch and hopefully get my Micro SIM. What's the bet they haven't a clue what I'm talking about.

I still have another year left on my contract - I dont want to buy out of it since I like having unlimited data! So I'd buy it offline from Apple so it was unlocked to all networks etc if I was to get it.
Nevertheless, Im still in 2 minds about whether to buy the iPhone 4 or not!
Its just the screen and the camera with HD recording that are drawing me to it!
I am considering selling my current 32GB 3Gs, which should sell well as its under warranty until Dec and its in brand new mint condition with no marks etc.
Then again - Im more inclined to wait for the white iPhone 4 as it wont show smudges and fingerprints as much as black. Then again, will the white front bother your eyes when looking at the screen.....

The iPhone 4 will be unlocked no matter who you but it from. So I'm told. I spoke to the O2 store today near me and that's what they told me. Although they also said they are getting white ones in straight away :signLOL:
Legislation was passed Iirc in 2008 that said networks are no longer allowed to sell locked phones anymore. Plus O2 will unlock the phone for free anyway if your on contract.
I'm pretty sure with the iPhone 4 being unlocked direct from Apple then they shouldn't be locked by O2 when you get it.

Did you request that, or was it sent from a registration of interest?
I went down to O2 this morning and they knew nothing about getting new SIMs in today. Clueless.

I got it by registering Interest and putting that i was an existing O2 Customer.
They did say not everyone will get one though.
I have filled out the Sim Swap thingymajig as well so they say it can take up to 24 hours but usually only takes an hour so will see.
Im just chuffed they included an adaptor :happy2:

no adaptor unfortunately just sim!
and to those thinking of chopping up their old one I doubt it will work as the metal strip is a different size on the sim/micro-sims

You can chop them as not all the metal strip is used apparently.

well i have just done the 02 sim swap job on their website and the new micro-sim works in my nokia 8800 (i have left it normal sim size until thursday) :drinking:

+1 ! I can't get multitasking to work, neither can I find folders! The only obvious difference so far is the wallpaper!

Oh ive figured out folders now, just drag apps ontop of eachother!
Very annoying that when you're on the home screen you can no longer double tap the menu button to get the ipod up. You have no choice but to use the multitasking toolbar :-(
Oh and i found out why multitasking doesn't work, its because the app developers need to actually develop the multitasking feature into the app itself! So could take a while!

If you have the 3G it wont. Only works on the 3GS I think. :happy2:

Nope, for example, the tunein radio application. If multitasking was working for that particular app then the music would continue if you brought up the multitask bar and selected messaging. But when doing that the music stops. Simply because the developer hasn't enabled multitasking on the tunein radio ap! I have a 3GS.

Jailbroken. I never bother with apple upgrades, they just copy the current best jailbroken tweaks. Had multitask for a month, folders has been out for over 6 months! Both are better than OS4 aswell as they have been updated constantly.

I do agree! I used to be jailbroken and was using multitasking and folders too, but then my iphone died and i got a new one, and just could never be arsed to jailbreak it again! Not really missing it as much as I thought I would, but then again I'll admit that I probably didn't take full advantage of the jailbreak.

on the majority of 3rd party apps, you are correct.
It is early days, let the devs catch up.

updated mine, now just doing the wife's - second one slightly better as I dont have to download the firmware again... backup does take a while mind you.

3G only two differences i can see are folders and the mail interface. Anything else I should look out for? Is the wallpaper only on lock screen on the 3G?
Ok just found this...... Also found the camera now has a 5x zoom.

Seem good so far, I've had to re-sync all of the photos over mind as the resolution went shocking with the update.
Also like the addition of the spellchecker thing in texts.

If you use geotagging you can see where the photo was taken and organise by location

all my photos, even from over a year ago have all the location details on there!!

Does anyone have issues with safari and typing? I was trying to type in a PM and after one line, the text disappeared and there was no cursor in the magnifying lens so couldn't edit words either. Right pain in the arse.

Mine is faster but the battery life is f00ked!!!! It even said in the update that increased battery life would be an improvement! ha ha ha

My battery life is definately better. Normally by this time of the day I'm around 45-50% I'm still on 71% and I haven't changed my usage if anything I've used it more messing with the new features.

My battery life has increased. God knows how a softwareupdate can make a significant difference in that field
I've noticed some tabs are a bit fuzzier. By tabs I mean, when mis typing something, the suggestion text in that tab isn't quite as crisp as the original text. There are a few more fuzzy bits but can't remember where now!

Downloaded the update but then got a message saying my 3gs isnt eligible for the update and that the update failed :stupid:

3G ios 4 loaded works fine with a handful of nice changes....but my battery life is fooked.....even with push, Bluetooth, and 3G off it barely lasts 12 hours of mostly standby and texts....must dim the screen a little to see it it improves...still if I get a 4 tomorrow I won't give a toss... :popcornsoda:

I had a terrible nights sleep last nite
As I kept gettin emails pushed thru as it mustn't of remembered my settings after the up date,
Also sh*t myself when the alarm went off on full volume, talking volume I've noticed when u turn it down to bottom, am sure it used to stop on one bar.
Now it goes down to silent

Ps also after the up date I had 3 albums in the iPod 7 times.
So had to go in iTunes and delete. But now each time I try to get them back they keep going in 7 times so had to not have them at all now doh
