Title: Anyone else been offered an iPhone 4 for delivery tomorrow?
Post by: winrya on June 23, 2010, 08:13:15 am
As above I got a text from carphonewarehouse yesterday afternoon saying they were going to call me to offer me the chance to order an iphone 4.  Sure enough a woman called and did the upgrade and I'm over the moon I don't have to camp for one tomorrow morning.

I have to say, after it all sunk in I did start to think it could be a scam

But just called carphonewarehouse to confirm it is genuine and they have processed my order, so if you get a call and are sat there thinking this is too good to be true, don't hang up

Anyone else been lucky enough to get one?  My girlfriend barely spoke to me last night, seems she's camping alone :P

I ordered from Apple and got an email last night saying it had dispatched. I'm hoping there might be some early deliveries like there was with the iPad

I dont see the point in the iphone 4, a 3GS and an iPad seems more logical. Unless you have an upgrade of course.

i never got a 3gs as i had a 3g and have held off getting an ipad as a few of my mates say they hardly use it now the novelty has worn off

the iphone 4 is new and shiny and I want it  :happy2:

lol fair enough!

I will wait for the updated version of both the ipad and iphone 4, they dont usually take very long to update there new products with a 'facelift', should be around christmas time i expect.

Eh, why? One is a smartphone, one is a device for consuming media at home...

Indeed, however i use my iphone for what i would use an iPad for (internet, games etc) and it costs the same as an iPad (my contract has 12 months left) so, as i said, i dont see why you would buy one unless upgrading.

There are way too many scenarios to go into where buying an iPhone 4 makes sense. I agree that your personal circumstances mean it's pretty pointless but what about someone who doesn't have an iPhone and doesn't need a computer?
Title: Re: Anyone else been offered an iPhone 4 for delivery tomorrow?

Of course, but then they would have a phone (for calls etc) and an iPad for internet, movies etc.

There are lots of scenarios where im sure someone would benefit and the same where the opposite would apply.

Upgrading makes sense but spending near £500 for a 3GS with a better camera seems mad!

we buy them because we want them and have the means to do so...

Get mine tomorrow

Flogged my old 3G for the same as the cost of the new 4G.
Title: Re: Anyone else been offered an iPhone 4 for delivery tomorrow?
Post by: winrya on June 23, 2010, 12:06:13 pm
As apple say, this changes everything.  Again!

This really is the biggest change since the original came out.  I didn't upgrade to the 3gs, I didn't feel there was enough difference to justify the cost, however i was lucky and got it swapped to a 3gs under insurance 9 months ago and then swapped again under warranty and sold on saturday.

So I'm making £50 by signing back to a £35 a month contract.  No brainer for me, I considered paying the £600 outright but having it delivered on release date or driving to brum to camp made the decision pretty straight forward

.....spending near £500 for a 3GS with a better camera seems mad!

It's not a 3GS with a better camera it has:

Faster processor (almost double speed 1GHZ vs 600mhz)
Better GPS
Better Battery
Better Screen
HD Video recording capability
Better Wifi (N Class)
Better Graphics (double memory at 512mb)

That's just sad.

I'm off to the O2 store in the morning as don't need to be in work till 0930  and they open at 0800.

If there is a huuuuuge queue though I'm turning round and coming home to sulk  :sad1:

I don't get it. I've bought Apple products for many years now, both personally and for the business. I had the first iPod, the first iMac in 1998, but I've never dreamt of queuing overnight for something. It's mental.

Why not just pre-order online?!
Title: Re: Anyone else been offered an iPhone 4 for delivery tomorrow?
Post by: vRS Carl on June 23, 2010, 01:46:48 pm
That's no good for those who want to get a contract or upgrade. But if your buying outright then yeah I'd pre order.

That's no good for those who want to get a contract or upgrade.

They're queuing at an Apple Store though, and they're not handling upgrades. Those guys are queuing to buy the phone outright.

Well the Vodafone concession at work just had their allocation of iPhones delivered and they received a massive 26 units. The problems is they have nearly 200 pre-orders.  :sad1:

Off to the Apple store in the morning for me then  :rolleye:

My local Carphone Warehouse store have only had 50 units delivered for their large number of pre orderes so Its an early start for me too. Even if I want an upgrade they wouldnt do it over the phone  :sad1:

^^^^

Slightly being the operative word.....I went to an o2 store near Glasgow they said that they were gutting in just 20 iPhone 4's  :sad1:

I'm making an early start....it's no biggie i know and stocks will come good eventually but like a muppet after 20 months of 3G ownership i dropped mine in the carpark face down! It's still useable but i now need to replace it....I've got a new glass on order from egay which i hope will allow a fix, then my wife or daughter will inherit it.

So 6am head to shops see queue then decide if it's worth my time hanging on or maybe even going to Apple and buying outright and a getting a simplicity sim contract or whatever.

Disappointing if the numbers rumoured are as low as they appear to be.....

There were plenty of ipads....

They have had a problem at the factory making the screens which has reduced output from 4 million per month to 2 million.

I'm going there at about 7:30 if the queue is more than 5 I'm off and will just wait it out for a week or so.

Quite a few complaints about this, mainly happens if you hold the phone in your left hand and cup the bottom corner in your palm - really bad if this is the case.

when testing in the field was carried out the had it in a 3GS lookalike case - so maybe if you put it in a case it will be ok
