i know i have said it before, but im asking again :booty:
on mine, the gearbox\clutch (dont know?) seems clunky, noisy and a bit ruff. when changing gears (usually down) it sorta clunks.
VW said it was because i has the torque arm insert. but i don't believe it, yet its hard to argue...
any other manuals think they have the same? if its normal or not

www.honestjohn.co.uk is a mine of information on known faults for all makes of car. Here's a couple of quotes regarding the MkV:
On 6-speed twin shaft manuals the gearchange from 1st to 2nd can become stiff. First stage dealer cure is to replace the transmission oil. If that fails, it needs a synchro ring replacing. So if your box stiffens up, make sure it is attended to before the warranty expires.
And:
Some 2007 build cars with 6-speed boxes suffered from a planetary gear fault due to incorrect assembly. Cars fixed quickly by TSB when in dealers for servicing or other problems. Fairly high incidence of exploding manual transmissions due to this fault and puncturing transmission casing. Same fault also occurs on the Audi A3. If not VAG serviced then the fault may not have been fixed by TSB.
Hope this isn't what you're getting matey..

thanks mate, interesting however im not sure that applys to ed30? diff parts?
also doesnt seem to be just 1-2 gears

I agree, it doesn't sound like what you're experiencing, but it's the best I could come up with. How's the clutch pedal feel? Service due anytime soon? Intermittent or all the time? When did it start?
-
as long as i remember. last time they looked the blamed the insert.
pedal feels ok. it comes up quite high but not compared with anyone else's.
3yr mot and service in july so yes very soon. end pof warranty! so gotta get them to do something if nething
-
I agree that you need them to take it more seriously. At least they and you both know the fault has been ongoing so they can't slam the warranty door in your face.
-
tru, but its hard for me to defend, i dont know if its normal, i dont think its the insert but cant say prove it.. so.. stuck

Try another dealer for a second opinion. Also speak to any motoring organisation to which you may belong. AA technical helpline was always very good.

Been thinking on this; have yoou been in touch with VW UK directly. I think it's worth a go.

i did, less than helpful as per

Figures. Tried a local independent clutch specialist for a second opinion?
