Look at those huugggeee vents in the bumper to cool that 2.5 TFSI, rather large front brakes and the crazy retractable rear spoiler! It's not definate but this to me says that the RS3 is on it's way   :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove:

wouldn't the 2.5 have more exhausts though?
-
There's a blank cut out on the RHS.
Seems a decent enough looking mule to me, lets hope they've had the balls to do it!
-
There's a blank cut out on the RHS.
So there is, I didn't spot that :popcornsoda: :popcornsoda:
-
That crazy spoiler is looking more like an air brake to me too.
-
Golf R will be better!
Agree with Mike, looks like a Merc SLR inspired air brake! :driver:
-

Really!? I thought it was the start of it was the start of it's transformers act when it turn's into a robot.....
-
I'd bet it's just a mule for other technologies, such as that air brake.
If it is the RS3 then the Golf R looks miles better visually.

I have never been a fan of the S3 Sportback, if it was a 3 door it would look a lot better!
-
Arent those Golf R front wheels
Spoiler looks wicked though
-
Arent those Golf R front wheels
RS6 wheels matey :happy2:
-
A 3 door sportback would just be an RS3 or S3 :signLOL:
Air brake seems a bit OTT, especially on a car which isnt to dissimilar to shoving a brick through the air, although that would suggest that it will be capable of some pretty excessive speeds! :jumping:
-
i dont know why people are commenting on how it looks??! its a bloody mule! LOL
-
I don't know if i'd want a car with different Alloys on  :signLOL:
-
airbrake retrofit to mk5 :happy2: oh yeah
-
Ill give it 10 minutes before it is broken, having a pigeon wedged in it.
-
i dont know why people are commenting on how it looks??! its a bloody mule! LOL
Exactly, this will look nothing like the finished article.

I disagree - the front in particular looks barely disguised.
-
I know this is probably complete bollocks but I wonder if the numberplate is giving away a clue, i.e. 342 PS / 342 HP!
-
airbrake retrofit to mk5 :happy2: oh yeah
....Hurdy's gonna need one of those! Better than a parachute

.
RS3 Sportback with TT-RS engine and S-tronic.. VERY attractive motor

If only they could sho-horn the engine longitudinal instead of transverse, with a full mechanical quattro system, rather than Haldex clutch, so it could have 40:60 torque out of the box like the A/S5's then it would be a special beastie in-deed.
-
That the most convincing spy pictures of the rs3 I've seen.
A few points that spring to mind....
... Is no one else thinking this could just be the new S3 rather than RS3
... Is no one thinking this could just be a test bed for new tech across the range? Especially with regs the air brake ( or is the spoiler about to fall off? :P )
My thoughts are, if it is an Rs3, audi Will make it completely bonkers, and expensive. Which is fine, it will probably be an excercise in "look what we can do". It should also re-address the balance between a3 top model and golf top model now the R has come along.
Well, that was a random post!
RS3 / S3, whatever it is it will be a bucket load of win and I can't wait. Oh an whoever posts any pics they might find in auto express gets an instant ban!

It could be but I doubt it, why would they go the effort of crafting an RS style front bumper onto what would be an old car if they were testing new techonologies etc for the new A3 / S3
-
I predict it is already too expensive and could be beaten by a mapped 170TDI A3.

Quote 1:
"First of all the quattro GmbH itself is going through mayor changes. Future RS cars will not necessarily be build by the quattro GmbH, but rather at the "regular line". This has pro´s and con´s. output capacity will move up, retail prices are requested to be on a competitive level, delivery times will cut down, on the other hand there is need to assure the same quality level of production, train the "line crews" etc. This procedure already started with the TT-RS, Q7 V12 and continuous with the RS 5. The quattro GmbH´s mayor assignment is to develop high performance versions of the Audi product line up as well as the Audi exclusive distribution and sporty upgrades (Wheels etc.) for the "regular" model line. Another advantage is, the development of future RS cars will start earlier which is supposed to make it possible to release RS cars within the first half of the product lifecycle.
Downsizing and future emission regulations will make it unreasonable to use NA engines within RS cars. Therefore the RS 5 is the last of the high-revving RS concept. So, forced induction is coming- yes.
As the TT-RS has been mentioned a couple of times:
the inline 5 engine has a great potential and you can assume to see the use of this engine again. A inline 5 with 415HP, 420 ft/lb mated to a 7 or even 8 speed S-tronic within a 3300 pound chassis could do the trick.
If we ever gonna see a RS 4 (B5) layout again is doubtful but you can be sure that future cars that carry the prefix RS will not lack design wise.
There are two RS cars on the horizon... over the next two years.

Reply by Qisha - "Dear KresoF1, the RS 3 will be available in a low quantity (~2.700 units) anyway and will be build at the Ingolstadt factory plant. Sometimes decisions are made on a level were we all do not have to understand... personally i know what you mean and do feel about the same. Good thing, there is a very good chance to see a RS 3 within the upcoming gen- as well."

PS: 7-speed S-tronic only"

"Dear Friends,
RS flat bottom Wheel: yes (already available for the S3, and through Audi exclusive for the regular line)
Sportback only: yes
wider wheel arches: front yes, rear inner fender yes- bodywork no
Please admit a little more time for final specs.

Only if it's been mapped by Custard Code............... :innocent:
-
whats wrong with Custom code?
:popcornsoda:
-
Whatever do you mean......
-
Hope they make it but wont be in touch of most mere mortals price wise.
Best part is it should lose some value by the time my finance is up and ill be in a position to get one. Love the sportback!
-
This looks like I maybe stripping the money tree are soon :jumping:
7speed DSG too FTMFW :jumpmove:
-
7 spd stronic box (not the low torque version) is stunning, larger number of plates on both inner and outer clutch-plates for smoother pick-up and seperate fluid reserviors for the gear-box and clutch-plates means less servicing as well  that a a longitudinal quatrro system are things I want in my next car
-
Nah.
What you need is this

^^ Now that would be some serious fun! ^^
-
Forgive my ignorance, but I cant tell what V8 that is???? its very wide angled put me out of my missery
-
That would be a B7 RS4's V8 on ITBs (because FSI won't work without a LOAD of messing about/custom parts)
-
I hope the RS3 does come along.
That air brake is peculiar though. In the pictures with it up it doesn't look as though the brake lights are on, and if it is an air brake when it flips up the third brake light will be obsolete as you cannot see it.
Also to me it looks as though the front wheels are bigger than the rear ones?
-
Thats because the front wheels are bigger than the rears :signLOL:
I really dont htink that is an air-brake, it has raised up the other way compared to most air brakes, and from the position of the car I would have expected the car to be accelerating again by the last shot. But if it is broken then why is the body work underneath a different colour?
-

It also looks like it would push air downwards potentially lifting the rear of the car, unsettling it when braking into corners.
-
I think thats an experimental rear air spoiler, perhaps to see how big a fixed spoiler would help in the cars downforce. Putting a moveable rear spoiler on a relatively low performance Hot hatch is laughable.
-
My Cayman has one.........................

Not sure why the rears arent bigger, but the fronts are to accomodate thoose mahusive breaks that its sporting! Not sure why it has a funny wing on the back either, maybe they are trying to get the rear to play up to test the ESP or quattro settings, hence the wing that is un-loading the back and smaller wheels?????? :stupid:
But it is a good question :happy2:
-
maybe someone didnt stick the spoiler on very well and its just lifted off
