so there was me :driver:
when the alternator fault light came on the dash board, a few moments later the air con stopped working..
a few more moments later everything started lighting up on the dash, and the dsg went fishing to find a gear, it was unsuccessful
had to ditch it at the side of the a1 in temporary roadworks
the cause according to RAC - air con pulley seized, and caused the alternator/aux belt to snap/perish
not a happy chappy, so much for a VW approved used car, on a 2006 and only 40k miles...
unlucky/1 off? or a sign of things to come?
:sad1:

bad times mate, dont know if this is a common fault, I think the air con, is a bit dodgy in golfs, but dont know about ur problem.
hope its not an expensive repair for you mate.

the compressor are a comon fault(see Steve P) they are £1000 throught the dealers to get replaced..the only thing that goes wrong with them is the clutch in the pulley..Hopefully yours will be covered under warranty

sounds like im not the only 1 having aircon problems then!!! my compressor was replaced 10 months ago under warrenty, cost over £1000 in total!! & now a bit of sunshine & i find its not working again!!
leather + sunshine = a sauna for a car!!! :signLOL:
mine was vw approved aswell & 1st time they tried to blag me sayin it will just need a regas.
really starting to p**s me off now as sooo many ppl have aircon problems wiv the gti. i had a pug 206 few years bk & aircon worked 4 years without any problems!

so two weeks on and my car is in exactly the same state it went in.
What the hell is going off? is this what VW are like?
waiting on warranty approvals, dont know how to do the work, not sure if they have the tools - all from a VW dealer!
I = :mad:
where do I stand in terms of the VW finance I have on this car? Should I be expected to pay for however long I've been without it? As I said before, it's two weeks and counting and they haven't actually done any work on it, just diagnosis (ah yes I see your aux belt is missing) and waiting on VW for warranty approval?
sarcastic :congrats:
this sucks so much I think it has ruined another brand/car/dealer that I shall be avoiding in the future.
