Title: Sad Question
Post by: nads1_uk on June 26, 2010, 08:41:05 am
This may sound a daft question is could someone recommend a cleaning product that will clean my exhaust.  Looking at the rear of the car it's the only thing that lets the car down.

Cheers

When my tips get really bad, I use Cillit Bang Degreaser to get rid of the horrible black stuff- works really well.

Finish it off with fine wire wool and Autosol.  :happy2:

I clean mine weekly, and don't even have to use a wire brush, just put the autosol on, rub it in with a cloth, and then wipe clean and its sorted good as new.

Depending on how dirty it is, I sometimes engine degreaser, work it in,leave, rinsemand repeat. Then use autosol.

Have a search. There's quite a few threads on this subject.

Jut to be clear though, ensure you get a the rubbish off before you start polishing with the metal polish! I've found simple oven wirewool pads with the oven cleaner on work perfect for this, then just polish them up 5-6 times:)

Another good product for the exhausts is RaceGlaze Alutech... it works wonders getting the exhausts clean and it also leaves behind a layer of protection that helps to keep them cleaner for longer.

We use it on our exhaust around once every three months and due to the protective coating it leaves behind we only jet wash them off in between applications and they come up sparkling

Hope this helps

I bought my GTI second hand and the exhaust tips are filthy and black,
What finish do the tips have from the factory... is it chrome?
