Just at vw for aircon regas but been told it's broken & they need it for a couple days 2 see wots wrong!!!
The compressor was replaced under a year ago under warrenty,but I'm now out of warrenty.
Reckon I am obliged to pay anything if it's compressor again?
Personally I dnt think I shud pay jack as a new compressor shud last longer than 10 months!! :fighting:

the dealers told me my compressor had gone as i had a load squeak..when i had a look it was the fan belt..hope you get it sorted under warranty

Pretty sure VW offer a 2 year warranty on parts excluding wear and tear. Do you still have the invoice? Its deff a year if its not two years :happy2:

Not sure I still have the invoice. I'm sure it will be logged on the system sumwhere tho.

how cum? surely a brand new vw part will come under parts warrenty. im pretty sure a compressor should last longer than 10months! ( assuming it is the compressor thats knackered)

if the shop that changed your compressor didn't clean the system for schrapnels from the busted pump you get another pump going bad. i had this 10 month after the pump were changed first time. Unluckely for me the shop, (an autoriced vw shop) had been cheating a lot of people and had gone bankrupt in the meantime :sad1:
so 2x aircon changes payed by me, great service from vw dk :fighting:

hhhmmmm so if it is the compressor again i will tell them to clean the system first :happy2:
i wont be paying for it in any case. it was a known problem whilst car was under warrenty, & it hasnt been sorted. :fighting:

My compressor exploded the other day, when my local VW specialist replaced it they also replaced the dryer unit as it was contaminated with aluminium shards (the engine bay was covered with them as the compressor really did explode). They did this as they said although the compressor comes with a 2 year warranty from VW if they refitted it with a contaminated dryer unit it would no doubt fail within a year and VW could easily argue that the warranty would not be honoured if the compressor was used with a contaminated dryer unit.
I would seriously take this matter up with the dealer, they replaced the compressor last time and it sounds like they didn't change the drtyer unit and it was contaminated (think of it as a filter for your AC). It's a cheap part (about £60) but it's a bugger to fit (2-3 hours), so may well not have been done.

Just to pass a bit of knowledge as I have researched this problem to the moon and back !
VW seem very expensive with this part as someone else suggested you can pick them up off ebay.
We bought a s/hand 2006 with a bust aircon, bought a second hand (from breakers) off new GTI 2009 aircon unit for £150
then went to Awesome GTI in Irlam who have tons of experience who quoted one hours labour.
Total bill £220 !
Awesome GTI can also find these for you for around the same price or new (i think) they quoted me £300
Hope this saves someone some money

I have just stripped out a complete A/C system from my 07 Gti Edition 30, I have sold the Compressor but if it is another part of the A/C system you need it is all for sale at VW Racing in Milton Keynes. PM me if your interested.

I'm pretty sure it's because they see you getting it for free and legally I don't think they have to. Not 100% sure though

not really getting it for free though. if its the same problem that they had supposed to of fixed whilst under warrenty. so if it was done properly 1st time round, i wouldnt have a problem now!

For what it's worth, when I've had stuff on warranty before I've always been told it came with a 1 year / 12k miles warranty on any replacement components.

anyway as its now out of warrenty i got the (very nice) service girl to sort sumthing out as they replaced it only 10 months ago, they will pay 100% parts & want me to pay £79 towards labour. pretty happy wiv that i suppose if it gets done properly this time.
just gotta wait 3 wks for part to come in!!

its a 56plate gti. the aircon is a bit of a joke on the gti, going by my experience & the amount of ppl who have problems.
