Title: REVO stage one?
Post by: Allardice on June 27, 2010, 02:24:19 am
Hi,

I am looking for a basic upgrade for the Golf and just want some more power without having to mess about with lots of other mods or the need to learn to read binary code.

I haven't done anything like this before and was considering the REVO stage one which claims to put standard power up to 255bhp.

Can any who has already done this offer any feedback and does anyone know where I could get it sorted near Nottingham.

Thanks

Not sure if it quite reaches that sort of output but it wont be far off. Maybe a thread or a look in the below section could offer more of an insight. Or the searc function may be of use.  :happy2:

Off the top of my head, a standard GTI won't go much above 230bhp with stage 1.

stage one is great chap  :happy2:

you should get 255 on stage 1 obviously people would argue on which rollers but Revo wouldnt state that on their website if it only did 230

As a REVO dealer I see 238-248 bhp  on most 200 tfsi stage 1 ECU remaps. I use a DynoDynamics dyno (same system as JKM) and many say these dyno's reads 'low'.

However I dyno'd 3 standard cars yesterday:

225 Cura R Leon: made 227 bhp
177bhp BMW 320d: made 173 bhp
Octavia VRS 180: Made 178 bhp

So the figures are pretty close to being standard. However most REVO stage 1 maps make the exact or more torque than they claim :)

My stage one revo gave 251bhp and 307lb of torque.  They are a different beast to standard and it's well worth doing

I do agree but still, do you think they will make more money saying 255 or 230?

Peak figures are always used to sell remaps but they are not a relevant factor in most cases as peak power is only produced for a short amount of time and in a small area of the rev range.

A well developed remap will concentrate on the power/torque curve from 1500 - 7000 rpm as a whole. 2 friends have Seat Ibiza 130PD's that I have tuned for them, one makes 176bhp and the other 161bhp both make 300 ft/lb of torque. On the road the 161bhp car is far quicker, drives better and revs lower as although it makes less power, it makes MORE average power over the entire RPM range. If I had some graphs to hand I would post them so you could visialise what i am trying to explain above.

as PDT says, expect between 235 and 247Hp, which is still a very big increase.  its not the power that makes REVO though its the torque, this is what you feel pushing you in your chair and makes the car accelerate.  you can expect anywhere from 260Ibft-280Ibft increase,

ignore the figures mate, that is all to gain customers who buy purely off what the tuners websites state.

as a comparison
std GTI- 200Ps/197hp and 207Ibft torque

stage 1 GTI  235-247Hp and 250-280Ibft torque

so irrelevant of what rolling road you use, you will get a huge increase in the performance of the car.

mine is stage 1 and is running 240Hp/270Ibf

as PDT says, its the area under the graph that makes the car fast,

Find a dyno graph of a Civic Type-R, they look like:

slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow slow FAST   :signLOL:

lol, they are alot better once mapped though, they bring the VTEC poin down to about 4k, and the MPG comes along for the dive as well :surprised:,

then its slow slow slow slow slow slow fast fast

Was actually going to post my old ctr's graph to back your previous point. It only made 220bhp but it increased throughout the rev range as much as 40bhp in some areas. This is what made it quicker.

Jesus mate, where can I get a standard GTi with that hp?
