Title: Start up issue
Post by: snapey on June 29, 2010, 06:37:20 am
Morning.

Right, this morning I had a bit of an issue with the motor that's confusing me slightly.

Came to the car this morning, turned it over and it seemed to catch alright, however after that it dropped straight off to 500 rpm is, held there sounding rough as hell, almost 3 cylinder'ish before it started to rev upwards towards about 2300 rpm at which point it turned it off. Started it back up and it caught fine and held at about 1.1krpm (bearing in mind it was cold). Any idea what may be causing this as its been abit spluttery on start up for the past couple of months but it's never done this, coilpacks? MAF? Any help is more than welcome.

Luke.

mine can be a little weird on startup sometimes, not as bad as what you just explained but always seems to take longer 2 "catch" than any other car i have ever started up.

About £20 to fix

I hope it is the same for you !

Sweet, guessing if it is a coil-pack VCDS should be able to pick up a possible misfire, excessive knock etc on an individual cylinder shouldn't it?

I think the PCV can cause poor starting and rough idle issues too.  £30 ish from the stealer and 20 mins DIY tops if you know how to get the engine cover off.  Bit longer maybe if its your first time ...

I've been getting a bit of a rough idle recently, no changes in revs mind and it seems to have started since I've reverted back from the bsh catch can.

Sod it, trip to the dealers tomorrow for a new one along with a coil-pack for precaution.

I'm getting mine checked this week as it seems to take a while to catch from cold (and doesn't always start first time i.e. stalls), not had the idling issue though...

Am guessing this might be the coil pack too?
