Title: Possible clutch woes
Post by: Syrag64 on July 01, 2010, 05:42:47 pm
I've only had the car 2 days but have noticed that the clutch bites only about an inch or so from the floor, is this normal???  If it isn't can it be adjusted?  It's going into VW for cambelt in next few days so if its on its way out i want to get it sorted asap.
Car has done 62800 miles so its overdue a cambelt!!!

According to my service book its 60,000, car is an 07 so its had a few motorway miles put on it lol

It will put my mind at rest....... as my last VW had a chain so no cambelt worrys there  :happy2:

i thought it was 60k as well.  its the norm to change the water pump at the same time as the cambelt, as they are intertwined somewhat :happy2:

You don't have to change the water pump. They generally inspect them and if there are any signs of leaking then they replace them. However it is advisable to do both at the same time.

Is that not diesel engines? As my book for the Octavia says something similar but it's for diesel engines.

Oh and VW need to do there sums properly as 150,000km is 93,750 miles  :signLOL:

clutch is self adjusting, the pedal height varies wildly across cars.
As long as everything else feels good , no slip etc then I wouldnt worry
maybe put some money aside for a future change ???
if std they tend to be ok, but remap and expect to change at some point sooner or later
 :happy2:
