Title: Ed 30 - To remap or not to remap
Post by: golfather on July 05, 2010, 05:01:11 pm
The Edition 30 is great in standard form.
Nice and smooth power delivery, and fairly controlled.

Just wondering after a remap, how driveable is it with all that power going through the front wheels?

Coming from an .:R, I'm not really familiar with the concept of "traction control", and even in standard form, its very easy to light up the front wheels on the Ed.

Cheers.

Just get it done and wear flip flops.   :pomppomp:

It just takes a bit of time to learn to drive with the extra power then in a fortnight you will want more again.

Get a Revo trial and see what you think, where in the country are you?

I find you will have to turn off the traction control to get decent excellaration. Ok in a straight line but bends could be an issue.

Transforms the car in the way it shifts, you'll be smiling put it that way especially if a R tries to keep up  :signLOL:

If you have an Edition 30 and it's not mapped you need to be having a quiet word with yourself in a dark corner! Completely transforms the car for the good  :happy2:

i had my ed 30 2 months standard.....was sceptical bout remapping the car and then decided to bite the bullet and get stage 1..

all i can say it transforms the car from a  quick car into a VERY quick car !!!!

no regrets  :happy2:

Hi,

A recent ED30 buyer myself, remapped within 3 weeks of having the car .  The difference is Night and Day my mate, but dont worry, you will soon learn to moderate the throttle in the first 2 or even 3 gears.  It's still a very driveable car mapped though, you just need to 'think' a little more than usual when you want to bury it.

Your car will turn into a bit of a monster at around 300bhp, but your gonna love it !!  There's virtually nothing on the road to touch a mapped ED30.  Hot hatches really shouldn't be this quick   :happy2:

driveability is fine with most ED30 remaps  :happy2:
they do tend to come on boost quite quickly though lol

my stg1 APR review
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,3567.0.html

but I would quite equally recommend REVO.

work out what suits your needs best in terms of tuneability and switching methods.

if you are manual , I would also budget for a clutch at some point, or dsg software if not.
you may find the additional power may frustrate you unless you bring some other things up to spec like engine mounts / WALK kit /tyres etc. whats  marginal at 230 bhp is easily an achilles heel at 300 ish

however its a definite DO IT  :happy2: from me

I couldn't agree more !!

I had my Ed 30 mapped via Superchips Bluefin and the difference was stunning - it was so smooth, progressive and quick ... it really suits the car ... there is no torque steer, just masses of acceleration.

Do it !!

Cheers for the comments guys, just as I expected  :happy2:

Trouble is, the standard brakes and suspension on the car are hardly up to the job anyway, so once mapped, they will be lethal.

So a fairly smallish bill will end up being a few K by the time you finish !

Anyone tried the MRC map on their ED?
Mihneas always done my Audis, and I know he's pretty good with the Ed too:

Any experiences here?

Had an MRC custom remap done yesterday.
For those that don't know, Minhea writes his own maps and is only one of a handful of people who can do this.
Well recommended on the Audi RS scene  :happy2:

My GOD this car is fast, acceleration is quick if not quicker than all my previous RS's !

BUT

The chassis and brakes now need sorting as its far too dangerous !
