Got an RCD510 fitted in my car last friday, replacing the RCD300 it came with. (The car is a 2006 model GTI, incidentally.)
The Can gateway was not replaced at the time, as the technician who did the work for me had seemingly ordered the wrong part. He suggested that we see how it goes and if the battery drained, we'd replace the Can gateway with the correct one and if it didn't we'd just leave it alone.
How quickly would the battery drain if there was going to be a problem, bearing in mind that the work was done 5 days ago now?
I started the car at lunchtime today and it did seem slower to turn over. When I switched the engine off again I heard a couple of fairly pronounced 'chiming' sounds through the speakers.
What does this mean?? Any ideas??

Chiming sound is most likely loose wiring. Mine does it if I don't plug in the amp fully.

Thanks Hurdy.
I also noticed that when I switch the engine off the sound system stays on too. Seems that the guy who fitted it has made an ar$e of it then..... :stupid:

I fitted my RCD510 to my 07 GTI around Jan (didn't update my CAN gateway). Had no battery draining issues yet. The longest I have left the car without starting it up was 15 days when i went on holiday. Maybe mine didnt need replacing because it's an 07? I'm not sure.
Hope that kinda helps!

I'm guessing that if there was going to be an issue with battery drain, it would have happened before now. That's what I'm hoping anyway!
